¡Hola! Hello! I am a high-school Spanish teacher in Texas who loves, loves, loves to read and watch movies. I am married and have a 14 year old daughter who keeps me busier than my own life. I love mystery/adventure, historical fiction, cultural books, classics, non-genre fiction, Biblical fiction, and much more. I am kind of a mood reader. I am...more »

You asked about witches abroad by Terry Pratchett. It all depends on what you like and how you want to experience the discworld. While each novel may be taken on it's on they do have connections, some like the Death stories which focus on the character of Death, the Wizard stories which focus on Rincewind (the main character from the first novel) or the wizards of Unseen University or the Witches which of course witches abroad belongs with. All the books interweave with each other but not enough so you will be lost. The only exception I can think of is Wryd Sisters, as that book follows on from Witches abroad. I would start with Wyrd Sisters if you want the Witches story arc then Witches Abroad. either way I love the discworld and have almost got all the books.

You asked about Harry Winston - the page jumped so this note - I think it would be interesting for anyone interested in lives of women around thirty, and this book is not cutesy. It is serious - but I thought DVP was too, though it was disguised in cute.

    Oh well...

I hope you can forgive me. I can get carried away sometimes, especially when I'm being sarcastic.

"El Club Dumas" was outstanding and incredibly entertaining to read. Unfortunately, as it usually happens, the movie was a fiasco. It is called "The Ninth Gate", starring Johnny Depp.
Anyway, up to now, only Arturo Perez Reverte's "La Carta Esférica" has disappointed me.
Hope you do enjoy "El Club Dumas" as much as my husband and I did.

Actually, I have no children. My brother has a son and a coworker of mine is having trouble with her teen. I ordered those two parenting books because I read strange things - I wanted to see what the books suggested for my own curiosity. I ordered two copies of the parenting teenagers book so I could give a copy to my coworker. I figured the other I could read and then pass on to my brother for his 6-year old.

City of Ember is a great book. It even has some Christian themes. I don't know if the author intended that or not, but it is almost allegorical.

Hey i have checked your favourite books. You have asked me whether "the witch of portobello" is good book but paulo coehlo deals with philosophy to a large extent. My personal favorite is "eleven mins" even though "alchemist" is very famous. I like his style of writing. "the witch of portebolle" is a departure from his usual writing. I enjoyed it very much but my personal favourtie remains "eleven mins" try it if ur interested in philosophy.

I actually listened to Neverwhere, as read by Neil Gaiman, first, and really enjoyed it. It's an interesting and inventive story.

Neverwhere is one of my favourite Neil Gaiman books, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to see the world in a different light. Do keep a map to the London underground at hand, and taking the tube will never be the same again!

Yes Neverwhere is a great book, I recommend it. My daughters and I loved it. I think based on your interests you might also like the Women of Genesis books by Orson Scott Card.
