Is it just me or are young adult books, with a few exceptions, getting more silly, predictable and poorly written with each passing year? Or could it be that I have just *gasp* finally outgrown them? D: I'm so tired of glorified teenage-angst-lustless-eternal-love stories right now.

Is it just me or are young adult books, with a few exceptions, getting more silly, predictable and poorly written with each passing year? Or could it be that I have just *gasp* finally outgrown them? D: I'm so tired of glorified teenage-angst-lustless-eternal-love stories right now.

I'm not ready to give up vampire literature though. There is still too much good in the vampire genre to leave it completely to the ya crowd. I'm also thinking about diving into the world of mermaid fiction, but I'm terrified that it will just be another skin world for the ya awfulness. Wow I sound so bitter XD

I think I'll make it my goal for the rest of this year to hunt down any serious (or at least semi-thoughtful) mermaid books that might exist out there. Suggestions are welcome! « less
