If there would be a recovery group for book fetishes, I would be forced to join! Never one to be satisfied with reading one book at a time, I surround myself with fiction, non-fiction, self-awareness and magazines.

I have been an avid reader since I was four, when I used to read to my little brother. During kindergarten, I got to... more »

  • It's a Breakup Not a Breakdown: Get over the big one and change your life - for good!
    • Rated 3 stars

Something I picked up on a whim. I have to say the advice in the book is uplifting and reassuring. Its in workbook style format(which is kinda humorous) as if we could actually complete exercises to get over someone, but it had many good ideas.

  • Varieties of Disturbance: Stories
    • Rated 2 stars

I was compelled to check this book out from the new fiction section at my library after reading the jacket cover. The book itself, I am sad to say, was not as interesting as the description. All in all, it was comprised of stream of consciousness chapters, some more interesting than others. I ended up skimming alot of the chapters and its very possible I missed some of the best parts.

  • Naomi: A Novel (Vintage International)
    • Rated 2 stars

I actually ended up with this novel as a mistake. Barnes and Noble changed the cover accidentally and by the time I got around to opening it and realizing the mistake, I had thrown away the receipt. This novel wold not be something I would choose, but nonetheless I stayed with it. The most interesting thing about Naomi was the way this man had no idea what kind of girl she was or was capable of being. He was totally unprepared to have her as a wife or had no business taking her in. She turned out to be a "Run-Around Sue", humiliating him in the process. Japan at the time of this novel was interesting to read about. Overall, the book was a bit of a disappointment.

  • Deal Breakers
    • Rated 4 stars

If you have ever hit your head against the wall so often that it hurts, then this book is the ticket. It has some insights into who guys are and how they behave when confronted with emotional decisions. The key here though is what is our "deal breaker." When should women say" enough already! Treat me like I deserve or hit the road, Jack!"? It gives clear and concise examples and stories so we can categorize our own situations and make some decisons. It gave me some piece of mind when I sorely needed it.

  • Third Rail: Rock and Roll Poetry
    • Rated 3 stars

A bevy of well-known poets reflect on how certain lyrics or music brings back intense memories of the past. We all have these songs. I have a certain few which remind me of roller-skating when I was 12 and some that remind me of having a broken heart. This book was a moving tribute to some of the best music rock and roll had to offer. It made me go back and search for some of the songs from my past.

  • My Mother Kept a Scrapbook: the True Story of a WWII POW

by Kathleen Marie Marsh, Gerhard Johnson
    • Rated 3 stars

This book was written as a memoir by a WW2 POW from Wausau, WI. My stepmom helped Gerhard organize his notes and his mother's scrapbook clippings and letters so he could have a concise record. After the publication, this book saw quite a little popularity and even as he was hesitant to talk about his experiences, Gerhard enjoyed the attention at the many book signings he attended with Kathy. Gerhard was a family freind and I had known him since I was a small child. He and his wife were some of the most gentle and caring adults I knew back then. He recently passed away. Gerhard will be missed. This is a great gift for a veteran in your family.

  • The Portly Princess of Thynneland

    The Portly Princess of Thynneland

    by Kathleen Marie Marsh
    • Rated 4 stars

My stepmom wrote this 'fairytale for adults" but I believe it has an audience with the younger audiences as well. This short book addresses childhood obesity in a humorous and easy to understand manner. Kathy is currently working to bring this to the stage.

  • Hannibal Rising
    • Rated 3 stars

I read this book in the five hours I sat in the hospital waiting room waiting for my grandson to be born. Thats how quick of a read this is. As always, Hannibal Lector is an insane and murderous pyscho. This book delves into his childhood and supposedly why he became such a sicko. Some of the scenes are so graphic it kind of made me sick to my stomach, which never happened before while reading one of the other Hannibal books. I will be watching the video to see how it compares. I always watch the video after reading the book.
