Actually, the book my wife has is by Paulo Cuelho, not by
either of those authors. I looked at some of the poetry and from
the little bit I read it seemed really interesting, but I do have
a language barrier. Can you recomend anything from Mexico,
    more so non-fiction than fiction?

Thank you for the suggestions, I will certainly put those authors on my list! I am going to read two English language books about Latin America soon, The Darkes Jungle, and Pirates of the Carribean Axis of Hope, both are on my list here. My wife has a book of Pablo Neruda, it's an old calander that has some of his quotes, I'll look for it! Thanks again!

Lucy, I speak some spanish, yes. I actually worked in a Latin American collection at a university library. I haven't read very much Latin American literature, but plan to in the future. I have read Enrique's Journey, about a Central American boy's journey through Mexico to the United States, and it was fantastic. I probably do not have the language skills necessary to read Latin American books in Spanish (yet), but will read what I can get my hands on in English. Any suggestions????
