Reading has long been my favorite thing to do. When I was in school, I could always be found with my nose stuck in a book, even when it wasn't supposed to be! I'm the one who got detentions because I would slip novels inside my school books. I finished most of the classics before I graduated. Nowadays, I still have a hard time balancing... more »

A bit gruesome for my tastes when it came to the descriptions of dead bodies! Definitely more of a dark mystery.

Hero is now taking a more active role and I love her character development! Yay!

This was my introduction to Laurie King's Kate Martinelli series and I have to say it wasn't a favorite of mine. I won't be reading any more in this series and will just save Laurie King for her Mary Russell series which I love. This was not an intense mystery and was easy to solve. Didn't keep me guessing. And I much prefer Holmes portrayal in the Mary Russell series!

Nice love story that takes place post ww1 in austria. This is charming with a mix of royalty, opera, and greed. No one dies and the lovers unite in the end. What more could you ask for??

This was a bit gruesome for my tastes but I did enjoy it. It was fun to imagine Tiny Tim grown. Also interesting to read about the baggage that the author saddled him with, which was certainly plausible. I look forward to reading his next one about Poe.

This was one of my favorites as a toddler. My mom says I would drag the book around, "reading" from it. I couldn't actually read yet but had memorized it from having it read to me so much! I can still quote most of it...."And there in a wood a piggy wig stood with a ring on the end of his nose, his nose...Dear Pig are you willing to sell for one shilling your ring? Said the piggy, I will!" I still love it.

I really enjoyed this. Author reminds me of Helen MacInnes or Mary Stewart. They write of simpler, happier times. Fun cast of characters. Good descriptions. I was pulled into the Austrian countryside right from the get-go. Nice romance.

Mindless fun. Second one definitely better than first in the omnibus.

Couldn't even finish this. My first time reading this author. Maybe some of her other books are better but I found this boring. Too many characters, making it confusing to keep everyone straight. The main character has nothing but bad things happen to him for the duration that I read. Finally I flipped to the end to see what happens and returned it to the library!

Although the subject matter was very dark, I really enjoyed this for the positive portrayal of a woman forensic expert in medieval times. A bit unrealistic perhaps but the author certainly made the idea plausible. This was a good read!
