I love to read (who on here doesn't?) but often find I don't have time (who on here does?). Between teaching and being in grad school, I'm usually reading scientific papers. I love to read (who on here doesn't?) but often find I don't have time (who on here does?). Between teaching and being in grad school, I'm usually reading scientific papers. Not bad, but not really soul food, either. Recently I've discovered the beauty of the audiobook - HOORAY!!! - which has significantly upped my reading for enjoyment quota.

I love well-crafted stories and I usually have a hard time reading the same plot retold different ways. The exceptions to this are Teen series novels and Dean Koontz or Clive Cussler books which serve as my book candy. I lived my early years in the world of fantasy and not much else, but have branched out significantly since then. Not to say I don't still love a rollicking good imaginary world with trolls, mages, and no doubts about who should win the last battle of humankind...

As I've matured (or aged) I've found that I crave stories my ears have never heard before. This has recently led me to a great deal of historical fiction, older science fiction, and books whose authors were not born and raised in Western culture. Too, because of my deep belief in the Bible as the holy scriptures, I read a lot of associated texts and, because of my need for empirical understanding I also venture often into the sacred writings of other faiths.

Other than loving to read and continually filling my mind with new information, I surf as much as time and life will permit, I raise a few amphibians and a couple reptiles, I try to stay in good shape, I attempt to connect with music as much as possible; all while inspiring young minds to love the search for knowledge as much as I do.
