I'm Laurie Gold, formerly known as Laurie Likes Books (or LLB). I founded All About Romance and was its publisher for more than a decade. Although I created AAR on Shelfari, with my retirement I've turned over its administration to AAR staffer and good friend LinnieGayl Kimmel. I remain very invested in books and reading; I review part-time for Publishers Weekly and am a part-time sales associate for a local Barnes and Noble. And with the start of 2009, I've joined the Red Hot Readers team participating in the eHarlequin 100,000 Books Challenge to help eHarlequin meet its goal on behalf of the National Center for Family Literacy.
Last year I was chosen to kick off Barnes & Noble's "Book Obsessed" video series on their website. Catch it at http://tinyurl.com/9nvvf3
My Shelfari shelf includes all the books I've read since I began to keep records about 16 years ago. I use grades, not stars (5 stars=A, 4 stars=B, 3 stars=C, 2 stars=D, and 1 star=F) and three stars does
not equate to "liked it," as it does in the Shelfari system. To compensate somewhat, I've entered all my C-'s as two star reads. When I set up my shelf, it was mainly in alpha author order, but most anthologies and two-in-ones (if by differing authors) were shelved last. If an anthology features a stand-out story, though, I shelve it by author. And, where anthologies are concerned, I grade by averaging all the stories. and so listed those in the "review" area for the book so that hidden gems can be more easily found.
Alas, the "custom" shelving option is no longer easily linked to. Yes...I know I'm a control freak, but I'd love it if you viewed my shelf via this url: http://www.shelfari.com/laurielikesbooks/shelf#firstBook=0&list=4&sort=custom.
Finally, if I've written about (or reviewed) a book on my blog (http://laurielikesbooks.blog-city.com), at AAR (http://www.likesbooks.com), or as part of the 100,000 Books Challenge, it's so indicated in the "review" section for that book.
