did you happen to catch the Anne Rice interviews on Focus on the Family today ?? You might want to check that out, it was very interesting from several levels. Dr. Dobson was unintentionally funny, he must have said DOZENS of times: now this is EXTRA-biblical material you are writing, RIGHT....?? I feel for the guy, what are people using for brains these days ??? God help all of us low-wattage intellects, esp. me. BLESSINGS

Aaron Shafovaloff has an interesting thread on the occult and magical influences of early Mormonism, with links to some really good articles. Thought I'd make you aware of that . God is shaping me in many ways thru posting there, I'm seeing how 'truth' can be a weapon to hurt people, even when the intention is far from that. I see strong examples, both positive and negative, of what kind of apologist I'd like to grow up and become. And at 52, maybe it's time to hurry !! I'm trying to stay encouraged to stay after it (writing, research, and teaching) into my "old age" and not settle for something less.....and do so with a sense of heaven and humor. Any mentors in your world that put you on that kind of track??
Blessings from the FATHER of lights on you and your household. GREGORNOTTHEMONK

the early church history thread over at Mormon Coffee didn't go far, maybe I should not have gotten my hopes up: lots of LDS action for about a day or two, and then not much....oh well. There was a VERY encouraging post (from TRUTHSEEKER) who told us how much our posting was helping him/her come out of the LDS faith. That one will get copied and put on my bathroom mirror. You don't often get an outright statement of positive results, and maybe that's for the best, lest we get what my pastor calls "the big head". Hiope all is well with you and those you love. noticed on your web site the title 'Musicophilia' by Oliver Sacks; I've considered giving this to my older brother Michael. What did you think of it? I'd hate to throw good money after bad, but the book looked interesting. Your web site rocks, by the way, I will plug it , and your books shamelessly on MC. The newest thread, 'is the LDS faith really 1st century christianity' attracted several new posters, but I'm not sure they will stick around. Several are heading for the 'testimony ball', as I call it, but we'll see, maybe the embers of dialogue will yet flare up (with charity, we hope).

Easy, Byron! I just did a search (on the site) of which people already had my books in their Shelfari library! We are all doing just fine. Good to hear from you, too -- and I'll give your greetings to Celeste as well. Yours and His, Latayne

I wonder HOW ON EARTH you ran into my profile on this website? Amazing! It's good to hear from you-- I hope everyone is doing well. I am so out of touch with Celeste, Cari, and everyone from that time in my life. I hope everyone is doing well. Take care-

Alrighty........we are signed up and everything. I'm somewhat new to Shelfari (3 months or so), and am glad to have your friendship. I might hit you up for an occaisional tip on how to budge some of my LDS 'counterparts' closer to the real Jesus. I have found out that blending courage, truth, and generosity of spirit really helps. Those who ONLY bang on the truth drum don't seem to get far, but I'm a rookie, so I'll consider anything. GERMITNOTTHEMONK found a lovely little JS history written by his MOTHER, at half price books tonight....isn't God good????
