  • Midnight Awakening
    • Rated 5 stars

This is the third book in this vampire series that takes a fresh, sexy, exciting look at the genre. Here they are called The Breed and battle against vampires of their kind who have succumbed to bloodlust and gone Rogue. There is a cultured, sheltered element of their kind, much like the ton of England called the Darkhavens.

  • Swimming Without a Net
    • Rated 4 stars

This is the second book in this series, and you really need to read the first to understand this one fully. It’s the continuing story of Fredrika Bimm, half-human, half-mermaid. We were left with a bit of a love triangle at the end of the last book with Fred in the middle of fellow-marine-biologist and romance writer, Dr. Thomas Pearson, and High Prince of the sea, Artur. They both continue through this book to try to gain her affection. She is confused about who to pick and which life to embrace.

  • For the Children
    • Rated 4 stars

What a colorful story! Ms. Thomas has written a richly populated romance full of fun, family, and love. Johanna MacPherson runs a tiny school in Heather's Hollow and finances it with moonshine sales. When she comes upon a city slicker in a fancy red corvette, she's immediately suspicious. When she finds out he's on the trail of Lightning Jack, she determines to chase him out of her neck of the woods.

  • Inferno
    • Rated 4 stars

Raintree: Inferno is the first in a trilogy with each book being written by a different author. The first book by Linda Howard is a quick, entertaining read. While the plot stays true to the form of good vs. evil, Ms. Howard sprinkles enough humor and romance to keep the reader interested.

  • Albert's Rain

    Albert's Rain

    by Annette Snyder
    • Rated 4 stars

This historical novel, set in nineteenth century America both before and after the Civil War, was a treat to read. Albert and Rayna meet as slaves on the Bristol plantation, but both are nobler than their terrible surroundings, and they are soon drawn to one another. When Rayna is raped and impregnated by the white slave-owner, Albert marries her to protect her name and honor. This is only the beginning of their life together, however, as they face the challenges of a flight from slavery, another child of their own, and a brand new life in Boston after the Civil War is over.

  • Silver River Love

    Silver River Love

    by Barbara Baldwin
    • Rated 4 stars

The little town of Silver River sprang up in the rough and rowdy West of the 1800’s when newfound silver lured all kinds of people to Nevada. In this untamed land, where sandstorms, rainstorms, stifling heat, and dust, at times shroud the breathtaking beauty--sensual, heartfelt love blooms.

  • The Warrior
    • Rated 4 stars

This is one of the books I’ve been waiting years for. It’s the story of Lochlan MacAllister, the Laird of the clan MacAllister. His brothers, Braden, Sin, and Ewan, have already had their books written in the MacAllister series. I am curious why this book was listed as part of the Brotherhood of the Sword series instead. Many of the secondary characters in this book are members of the Brotherhood, but the main character is a MacAllister. Perhaps it’s not practical to put two series’ on the front cover.

  • Abracadabra (Spellbound Trilogy, Book 2)
    • Rated 5 stars

This was a fun, raucous read that I greatly enjoyed. This is a stand alone sequel to Rhonda Plummer’s previous release of Hocus Pocus, and I was pleasantly surprised that there was actually enough information that I didn’t have to have read the first story to understand the second. Let me just say that having read the second one first I’m glad I have the prequel to this one in my stack, as I loved Ms. Plummer’s point of view.

  • Intimate Distance
    • Rated 4 stars

To start, I have to say that I did enjoy this book. It had a bit of a slow start as we got to know the main characters, but it was necessary to know the reasons behind certain aspects of the story. Once the explanations were out of the way it moved along well enough to grab my interest and keep it.
