Wow -- only two stars for Rebecca, Larissa? What didn't you like I wonder?! Happy reading now :)
I finally finished House of Sand and Fog!

Ok! I'm back...you haven't lost me completely! I'm a teacher and have been out for the summer but school started back in September and I have been overwhelmingly busy! I did finish Tara Road and getting ready to start House of Sand and Fog! I'm a month behind but I'm still here!
How's the group going? I have not been involved in a group on Shelfari before..I wouldn't mind contributing to any discussion regarding books from the Oprah book club. Let me know how to join!
Hi, Larissa. Sorry it took me so long to stop by, but I’m from the Booktivity group and wanted to welcome you to our group. How this works is that every month a category is voted on by our members. Depending what the category is for that month, you just need to find a word in the title that fits the category, read that book, and come back and post a review of it. This month the category is school. Hope you’ll join us and have fun!
A shelfari friend said Persuasion is Austen's most mature work in his opinion. How are you finding it my friend?
I was afraid of that. I have picked up it and up and put it back several times! I will keep it off my list. I am sorry you didn't like it.
Hi Larissa,Are there any books you have read or want to read that you could recommend? Thanks,James
I would be interested to know what you think of The Sea. I keep adding and deleting it from my TBR list.
Hi Larissa C! I'm here on behalf Author, Author and wanted to welcome you to our forum. August's featured author is Haruki Murakami, and we have two alternate authors, Sawako Ariyoshi and Yasunari Kawabata. If you're interested, you can choose a book written by any (or all!) of these three authors, and after you've read it, please come post a review and star rating so the rest of us in the group know what you read and whether you liked it or not. Feel free to look through our past authors, or chime in about August's. Also be sure to stop in around mid-month each month and put your name in the drawing to pick an author. Happy Reading!
LarissaYou have a great book list. Thank you for sharing. I picked out many books from your list.
I'm in a book club here in town and I just had our monthly meeting on Sunday. The lady hosting had bags of books that she said we could go through and take what we wanted. I was looking through and none of them looked like anything that I would like to read (they were mostly murder mysteries) and there at the bottom of the pile was The Grapes of Wrath!
No! I really want to read The grapes of wrath! I'll have to get to it soon.
I am thinking that I may go to Seminary school after I wrap up a MS in Community Counseling. I was raised Catholic but my undergrad school is affiliated with Church of Christ, Disciples, and Independent Christian Churches. Brite Divinity in Ft. Worth, TX is calling my name. As for moving back, I am unsure.....I miss some things Oregon and my family however I think the southern US is wildly fascinating. Have you read much in the YA genre? I am an interim youth minister for my church and want to know what those kids might be reading. Then again, I hope they are reading and not watching reruns of Jersey Shore. One can dream! How do you like Portland? I miss all the good coffee shops, Floyds;( especially! Have a wonderful evening!
I see you are reading East of Eden...I hope you love it as much as I did. I'm not even sure why because I read it so long ago but it stands out as being a book that I really enjoyed. I finished Paradise a few days ago so I will be commenting on it soon on the Oprah group page!
Ah, yes the rain! How could I forget what many Oregonians refer to as "liquid sunshine." I never bought that line. Kitridge was a good read, I see your point on the short stories. What do you like most about PDX? I liked Powell's Books the best. I see you plan to read 'All the Pretty Horses' and I highly recommend that book, it is a good read. I hope that you are having a wonderful day, despite copious amounts of rain!
Thanks. I will try to read Paradise. That is one of the Oprah books I have not read. I see you are from Portland. Love it! Spend a lot of time there, my niece (Canby Rodeo Princess) just rode her horse in the Rose Parade. Don't get there as much as I would like, I'm in Maryland.
I see you are reading Olive Kitridge. Please tell me how you like it, I just finished it about one month ago. How is PDX treating you? Cheers!
