With magical realism, it portrays the importance of family and of the past. The plot moved on its own with guidance of Hoffman's writing, which was beautiful and fluent, transporting the reader to vivid scenes and places. The characters, varied at the same time reminiscent of each other, were delightful elements.

This book breaks stereotypes on certain characters, and gives emphasis on the importance of preserving wildlife creatures, or nature in general. In some way, anti-Capitalistic (as I sensed it; purely an opinion). Kind of nice, with adventure and life lessons.

A story, set on a flawed utopian society, about how history best not be forgotten and life isn't all black and white. It concerns with matters such as, I think, essence of humanity and ethics. The ending might remind the reader of a cycle--some things don't easily change, instead, going back to square one yet again--but hopeful. The writing style is simple and direct. Truly timeless, even if it lacked impact (in my case, at least).

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins." Tragic, breathtaking, and with a somewhat distant, extraordinary prose. Such beautiful storytelling Nabokov had achieved. French passages tend to confuse a reader such as I that knows little French and had little will to translate, though understandable still. A different view of love: obsessive, nostalgic, but accepting.

Wonderful insight on life being an expat or a foreigner in France. No sugar-coating, as the usual case, but with somehow honest and awkward anecdotes. Charming, just like the place.

Poignant and suspenseful, you could feel the war at your fingertips. It had a tendency to be cheesy, yet inspiring. Corrie Ten Boom's writing style--eloquent. Recommended for people interested in the human experience during WWII.

The first part 'Storm in June' was in a way, sort of one-dimensional: vignettes more focused on the hypocrisy of the upper-middle-class (of course, with some exceptions ). Nevertheless, witty and truthful observation on human behavior/follies in times of war. The second part 'Dolce', to describe in a word, was heartbreaking. The appendixes were delightful additions, as heartbreaking as the story itself. An unfinished work, undoubtedly, but still a masterpiece.

Thought-provoking, informative, although at times predictable, a must read for everyone especially for young readers.

I like the prose and the voice of the character. But it also seemed to me redundant and repetitive. There’s nothing wrong in redundancy if the author wished to give a strong emphasis on the character’s thoughts, but it can also be tiring. The plot is very simple, but the way it was written was like pieces of puzzle you have to rearrange to figure out; I like that it was done that way, making the novel simple and intriguing at the same time. It was very poignant and interesting, but it somehow failed to affect me powerfully. It did, but quite faintly. I won’t say it was entertaining, much more a light read, since it was such a very emotional book. But what I liked best was the ending, and I don’t mean it the wrong way. I liked how the conflict was somehow resolved in the end, and how it was very hopeful. And what I also liked most how this book gave me a perspective on people who have bipolar and how it affects the people who loves them.

This book is funny and witty. Although I cannot entirely say that it's different (since it has a typical formula of a high school story wherein the main character got into a trouble and resolves it in the end...blah, blah, blah), but the story is very interesting and unusual.

I like Evie's character very much because of her strength and well, being different in a good way. And the author did a good job in giving her a very intelligent voice. But the only objection, perhaps, is that the author made Evie seemed like a very amazing person which can be nauseating at times.

I also like the characters in this book (like Martha, Jacinda...etcetra). There are dimension to each of them and they are not stereotyped.

You can also learn different perspectives about things, most especially about education and democracy. I also like the dialogues.

This book clearly is well-thought, well-written, well-done. And once I read it, I can't put it down.
