I do not remember a time in my life before I loved books and reading. My grandmother tells a story about the fact that when I was about three years old, I liked to climb in bed with her and my grandfather on Saturday mornings and read the newspaper with them. At first, the only words I recognized were "a" "an" "and" and "the." So, I would read the words I knew and then ask her, "Grandma, what's this word?" Then, I would reread the sentence up to point of the word she'd just told me and then I'd turn to her and say, "Grandma, what's this word?" And we'd do this until I was able to recite the entire article.
I read a little better now than I did then and since I live too far away from my Grandmother to climb into her bed on Saturday mornings, I keep a dictionary close just in case I don't know the words. But, sometimes before I look a particular word up, I think to myself, "Grandma, what's this word?"
Anyway, there's something in every kind of genre of writing that I like. I probably have something of a positive bias towards books that make me weep, don't know why.
I am hoping that my friends (new and old) will recommend some exciting new books. I would like to have a reading list that is balanced with some books that really engage the analytical parts of my brain and some that are just a rolling good time.
