Although I don't say this all too often, this book was fun. Some will fuss that the book lies by declaring itself as non-fiction--there is no possible way that Larson could have known the thoughts going through the mind of a woman right before she was murdered. However, this is why it's a popular history book and not an American History textbook. It's like when people get upset about McCullough's biographies. It's popular history. Some people enjoy the story of a President more than a list of facts and dates.

Fun book. Solid research. Decent storytelling.

I get it, life is dismal. Some people call McCarthy's prose a direct reflection of the content he is writing about. I call it lazy. How about throwing in some quotation marks from time to time. Also, when you're writing a book that is supposedly original and groundbreaking how about leaving out the sappy ending?

"There's a fire inside of you." Is there a bigger cliche?

Entertainment Weekly called it the best book, fiction or non-fiction of the last 25 years. That was the last time I read Entertainment Weekly.
