“When I started reading this book I was not sure if I was going to like it, or if I would even be able to tell what was going on. The use of Nadsat (or slang) is very strong and it becomes a characteristic of the book itself and blends into the interpretation. On the surface one could take this book as a violent rampage or random words thrown on the pages, but it is definitely a lot more than that.
As someone who is quite often interested in the antagonist or the villain of stories and movies I was very interested to read this work and honestly after reading the whole book I was not disappointed. You must look at the wider picture here, take yourself out of your own world and imagine living in the one Alex does. It captures a harsh reality of youth, wild and out of control, perhaps resembling something of today’s world? That was imagined to be a distant future.
Not everything in the world is pretty and rosy, and even if we don’t want to imagine it’s happening, it is. People are torturing, killing, robbing and raping each other and if we just close our eyes, one day they will never open and the world won’t be a place of humans any more.
This book made you think. Not just about the context of the pages, but about the world and how people are living in it. I would certainly recommend it to anyone else who had an open mind to view a dark place some worry to view.”
