    Karen,
Can you recommend a really great book that my book club would like? Must be well written - they are very picky. What they like - anything by Kingsolver, Anne Tyler, John Steinbeck, Frank Mosher, Alice Hoffman.
They like suspense but doesn't have to be, memoirs, funny, drama, mystery, biography
If you think of something let me know.
    Thanks,
    Mary

    Hi Karen,
I'm going to try to send you the essay on Good Parents/Bad Parents by copying and pasting it into the private note email. Thank you for the book recommendations. One of them sounded particularly interesting to me. The cancer has now moved to Bill's lymph nodes. The doctor says he is still responding to treatment so I guess things are still hopeful!

Thanks for the input on the books and particularly the sequels to the Indian. I was afraid that might be the case. I got our at a 2nd hand store and paid very little so I thought why not scoop them all up? The original book is so hilarious at times--the boys have forgotten watching the movie several years ago so now we are all looking forward to seeing it after we finish the last chapter!
Also, noticed the previous posting mentioning How We Die. Would this be of any help with Alzheimer patients I wonder? My mother is in early stage nearing mid.
    Thanks,

    Hi Karen,
I just perused your bookshelf and went to the tag on death. You have a collection of books that I believe would be a valuable read for everyone. I recently read the book How We Die. My sister's husband is very likely to die from inoperable stage 4 lung cancer. I've been seeking those books that will help me be stronger where my sister will be weak when/if her husband dies. I have twice survived breast cancer. I have an inkling of their current tragedy. But at least my metastasis was only to the lymph nodes. Her husband's has begun spreading to distant sites. I feel a great need to read books that will help me to accept whatever comes, life or death. I want to, in any and every way possible, make whatever time they have left together as a little family with their four year old daughter full of pleasure and meaning.

Just checked your shelves and had to comment. I recently purged my sons' books for the 3rd or 4th time. This time we made a pile of "keep forever" and although they are 10 and 8-1/2 they insisted all the Little Critter books be kept! They loved them dearly. We are now reading the Indian in the Cupboard series and I think we'll try A Wrinkle in Time afterwards. Any suggestions along those lines at that reading level?
    Thanks

Karen, I loved your insight from the Te of Piglet. I noticed your note on Aubepine's page. I haven't read the Tao and the Te yet but just added them to my wish list.

Thanks for letting me know. Does the movie have the same title as the book? I'll have to see if I can get it from the library. I think I may even read the book again it has been so long since I read it. Just recommended The Book Thief for my book club and everyone loved it. Made me cry. Did you read it? Any good recommendations let me know. Nice to meet you! Monica

I hope you get to go on the Little House Tour someday (smile) It has been many years, but I don't think they allowed pictures inside the house. It seems like my husband did take some outside of the grounds and orchards. Some of the things that most impressed me were the hand-made collection of canes Almanzo made. Needlepoint sewn by Laura on the chairs. The old calendar on the wall with notes Laura had scribbled on it. What a highlight after reading all her books.

Hi, Karen! I haven't read "Emma & me" yet-- so I'm glad you didn't tell me what the surprise ending is! It's on my shelf because I have it (my sister passed it along) but also on my Reading list (TBR pile) because I've had a sudden influx of books-- from Frugal reader, sister & Borders! ;-)

Well, I don't remember Cheyenne too well. Though I know I went there as a child. I remember Casper, I've been there fairly recently, but almost all of the time I've spent in Wyoming was in Sheridan and the NE corner. Its pretty around the Bighorn Mts, and I know around Jackson (SW corner) its pretty. But the rest of Wyoming, in my opinion, is pretty ugly. But I love green. I love to have lots of trees around and lots of other lovely plants. Wyoming is dry, dry, dry. Lots of sagebrush. Anyway thats why I love Washington so much, its green! But I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip. I do agree with you about the internet being a very good communication tool. My family all lives in SD and I can send photos daily if I want and email my mom through out the day. With the internet I find we talk on the phone much less. When I was pregnant I was sending pictures of my belly every week and was able to tell her every little twitch I felt. Its fantastic! I don't mind you giving me too much info, I'm sure I do it to people all the time!

Thanks for the quote. I have gone out and inspected the RV from stem to stern--can't find a place to build a bookshelf. However, that quote does pretty much cover my son and his wife!
