    Hello,
I am the administrator for one of the Shelfari groups, Play Book Tag. One of your members, GEZE 2S, just invited me to your group. It looks fascinating!

The reason I'm writing to you is that the premise of Play Book Tag is that each month a member randomly selects one of the top 200 Shelfari tags. Then, all of our members read books that fit the tag.

This month, GEZE 2S was our randomly selected tagger, and he chose "Africa". So all of our members are going to be reading books on Africa this month - - and it is a whole new world for most of us (although we have some incredibly AVID readers).

I would just like to invite you and any of your group members to join us this month for the discussions. I bet you can add a ton to what we are doing since this obviously is a topic you've already given a lot of thought to.

Plus, you may find some of our members would be interested in your group once they got to know you.

Right now, we are just finishing up our May tag which was 19th Century. And on June 1st, we'll be launching into Africa.

So, no pressure to stop by, but it would be wonderful if you had time to share your knowledge with us.

Hi, I found the group on Facebook and joined. Hopefully we can attract a crowd... there are so many groups on African topics but few if any on literature. Well done.

I can't believe I'm the only person to write notes on your shelf! I feel like a stalker! (I'm not!!!)
I came by to let you know that over in the India group we are now discussing what book to do for the September group read. We'll source and read the book in August and begin discussing 1 Sept. Please weigh in on the discussion!

I didn't realize you had created the African writing group! Well I won't feel so circumspect about discussing or adding books by non-black Africans then.

I don't know THAT much about East Africa--I have a general interest in Africa (as I do in India, China and Latin America), an interest that I pursue mainly via reading and films (Mississippi Masala, for example). I have traveled there on holiday but it's so far and so expensive to get there that returning as much as I would like to is not an option. There are a few Sindhis from Uganda and Kenya here in JA, so I have a clue about their story...
Don't forget to add Tipping Point to your "to buy/to read" list too.

So I'm figuring Kenya not Uganda based on your shelf and also you only left 8 years ago and if it had been Uganda you would at least have left under Amin and then gone back.
You should read North of South by Shiva Naipaul. It has a scathing critique of Kenyatta, Nyerere and KK. I actually got my copy in a great little bookstore in Nairobi!
Tipping Point is excellent, and especially if you are in business, I think you will enjoy it and also find it useful. Plus it's an easy read.
I still can't figure out the Superman pic, but it's on your blog too, so I guess it's part of your "brand". How come you haven't linked shelfari to your blog? How do you have time for all the blogging? Shelfari is my only online networking activity and it consumes way too much of my time (but it's a lot of fun!) It's a great way to discuss books at your own pace.

Thanks for inviting me to be a friend. I guess I should feel special b/c you don't have that many.
I am trying to figure you out based on your lack of a profile, your superman picture, and your books. You have a lot of African (have you put your stuff up on our African group?--it's really diverse stuff, much of which I never knew existed--not that I'm an expert), some Indian, some U.S. politics and foreign policy, and THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES. Now what is that one doing in there? It is such a girlie girl book -- I couldn't put it down myself, but it annoys me to no end that it is STILL on the p-back bestseller list -- it totally is not in tune with the rest of your shelf! If it weren't for that I would be sure you were male (mainly based on the superman pic).
Anyway, your books are cool but how come you have Blink and not Tipping Point. I only read Tipping Point and it was really good, but I did hear that Blink wasn't as good.
