The books I love:

I love books that give you one of those “a-ha” moments, when something just clicks and you feel like you’ve been given another little piece of the “life puzzle.”

I love books that make me say “Wow - I didn’t know that” – I love to learn and I probably annoy a lot of friends by barraging them with “this really...more »

    Hi Kim,
Wow, sounds like a great lecture series, and a great perspective in your program! How are things going for you besides that?
Yeah, Daniel Quinn is an AMAZING writer. I've read most of his other books, including his *Ishmael* series (Ishmael, The Story of B, and My Ishmael). Have you read *Ishmael*? If not, I highly recommend it. Basically, Quinn takes an alternative perspective on history, the rise of civilization, the current environmental crisis, and how they're all connected. Just an amazing thinker. I've come to diverge from his thinking over the years as I've developed my own ideas, but nevertheless, he has been a great influence. So, I look forward to reading his *Lined Paper* book, too. :)
My second book came out in February, and my third book is due out in September. My editor is going over the manuscript right now.
    Cheers,
    Gaddy

A big HELLO to you Kim!

It's great to hear from you! How are the colors of the rooms in the new house? Do they spell "Kim's choice" or not? :-) My shelfari group started having avatar themes that we change every two weeks... maybe until we run out of ideas. It's quite fun. We've posted our baby pics, yearbook pics, cartoon character favs. This week it's beach theme time :-)

Take care and keep in touch!

hi Kim. so fun to hear from you. i am a musician and have been on the road a little. may have sold enough cds to put running water in the cabin! i just began breeding my horse to outside mares and a new baby is due at a ranch down the road and i am so excited. exceptional mare, too. the more i live w my horses, the more relaxed i am. sometimes, i think this helps me more than the kids that come here for mental health therapy. actually, i have had to quantify "successes' for grants, and since i've been operating for a while, i can track kids who have been thru the program and they DO graduate, and manage to become healthy adults w families, jobs, etc. also, many successful adoptions for the foster kids. it takes a long time to prove statistically that this works, but its possible. and of course it works. i hope to be able to keep a filly by my horse out of my favorite mare. she's a ten mover and quiet quiet quiet. my kind of horse! also fancy and pale red dun. tell me about your appys. the nez perce are breeding the old appaloosas again by crossing ahkal-teke horses w appaloosa mares. my tribe Comanche has a horse program based on ours, but much larger, w a mustang breeding program. i learned a lot from many horse people there. whats is like where you are? have a great day, Lynne

hi. you would probably like bill dorrance's book true horsemanship thru feel. buck brannaman learned from bill and tom dorrance. i have a small charity on our reservation and we teach native horsemanship. my stallion is a great lesson horse for kids or people with physical, emotional or mental health issues. his babies are the same. we have only bred our own mares til a couple years ago, and i like how forgiving and athletic his babies are. i think horsemanship is like music= its either good or its bad and if horse and human are both content and working together happily its good. i guess good and bad in music is more subjective! i've played music for a living my entire life and i always notice how working w a horse is like playing music w someone. i have some easy training tips that helped me a lot. do you have a horse? Hey, I never did get back to you, ahhh, gosh. NO I haven't hiked the AT, wish though I could! I'd bet I'd be in the news! LOL! I have Cerebral palsy, which would be a *bit* of a trick, getting around "Rockcylvania" (PA) that's what they refer to it as--it is the worst part of the trail. I can't *do* rocks! I tried several times in Hiking Big hikes, but stones are an issue. But I have done Half Dome Twice (which I consider a Feat) Now, I didnt do the dome itself, but I did it to the base, and I am still darn proud of myself for that! 18 miles in one day r/t. up and back. The up isn't so bad, the down is.
So, I understand you are a bit of a skeptic, that's okay, we got a skeptic to Channel! LOL, he didn't think he could do it...I just got to shake my head. You see there are forces outside of ourselves so much bigger, but we keep shaking our fists saying NO No, I've got to see it! Well, I understand, I almost died when I was 14, so I got to see that too! LOL. Been there had the tooth pick, if you know what I mean! Hope all is well.

Hey what are you reading right now? I gave up on all of my new books and concentrated on my music, the books were a bust. I don't recommend them. Jefferson Airplane on the other hand, I do recommend!

    Take Care,
    Mary

"Bias" is vary good , but it does not tell us anything we did not already know about . I think his other two books are better . 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken Is #37) and Arrogance: Rescuing America From The Media Elite . I have not read Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right: How One Side Lost Its Mind and the Other Lost Its Nerve , but I have heard good things about it .

I love your profile. Love your use of "a-ha" moments and of your thirst for learning. I read in the peace group about your love of nature. I think in these things we have much in common. We also hike alot and play in the snow -I'll be learning how to ski for the first time next weekend and I'm very excited! I've requested a friendship from you. Have a great day.

Didn't recognize the Ledger photo, huh? :) I was actually looking for one from 10 Things I Hate About You, but I couldn't find a good one. It is such a sad thing. He was such a good actor with lots of potential. And a hottie.....
