I was transplanted to the south at the age of seven and never looked back. Fell in love with the lush gardens and coastal architecture of Savannah, Charleston, both Beauforts, New Orleans, and more. I ran the southern public university circuit with degrees from Tennessee, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Georgia, and now teach at NC State in Raleigh. I train teachers to use technology effectively. One project I'm currently involved in has students using technology to analyze and interpret historical primary source letters collected from a wealthy Carolina plantation family with land holdings in NC, AL, and MS. We're pleased to have author Lee Smith on our advisory board for one related grant, bringing oral history into the mix. I love the classics from the likes of William Faulkner and Thomas Wolfe, but also the comic fiction from Fannie Flagg and others who capture eccentric southerners so well. « less
