Hello there, I stumbled across this website while I'd been looking for more books to read. I'm an avid reader, and my current interests are mainly with supernatural/paranormal romances. Laurell K. Hamilton, MaryJanice Davidson, Kelley Armstrong, Alice Borchardt and Charlaine Harris are on the current "top authors" in my mind in that genre, for... more »

Nothing wrong with oddball stuff-that's my main reading material. BTW if you do read those books you MUST read them in order or you will really decrease your enjoyment of the series. Here's the order: Grave Sight (October 2005) [1] Grave Surprise (October 2006) [2] An Ice Cold Grave (October 2007) [3] Grave Secret (October 2009) [4].

Hi there! I just stumbled into the paranormal romance genre and so far, I'm liking what I see! What are some of your recent favorites?

I just read 'Once Bitten, Twice Shy' (which I see is on your Plan To Read list!) and 'Soulless' by Gail Carrigan, which I thought was perfectly charming.

No sweat. Conversations in slow motion are standard for Shelfari! Hey I hear they are going to make the Harper Connelly books into a comic book series.

Hi Mira, it's really nice to hear from you. I have Phaedra Weldon's Zoe Martinique Investigation series on my to read list. You're right they do sound similar. I'm not familiar with books by Patricia Briggs though.

I've read some cracking paranormal/mystery books since the last time I spoke to you. The first book is "Road Of The Dead" by Kevin Brooks. Here's what it's about:

On a storm-ravaged night, a 19-year-old girl is kidnapped, raped, and killed. Three days later, her two younger brothers set out in search of her murderer. Cole, 17, is a dark-eyed devil who doesn't care if he lives or dies, while Ruben, 14, is a strange child who sometimes, inexplicably, experiences sensations above and beyond his own. This is the story of the boys' journey from their half-gypsy home on a London junk lot to the ghostly moors of Devon, where they hope and fear to find the truth about their sister's death. It's a long road, cold and hard and violent. It's THE ROAD OF THE DEAD.

The brothers are psychic and the youngest one had a vision of his sister's death. I really liked the book.

Another book I really enjoyed was Dead Waters By Cathy MacPhail. Here's what its about:

Col McCann is used to being in trouble. It is always the McCann family, in particular Mungo, Col's brother, that the police think of first when trouble comes to their town. But when Col saves a boy from drowning in a nearby loch and discovers what it is like to be a local hero, his loyalty to his trouble family wavers. Beyond that, Col has seen something underwater in the loch, something that is still submerged in his memory. When it resurfaces, Col is led to a devastating truth about his brother. His loyalty to family and his need to do what is right collide as he races to uncover Mungo's darkest secret yet.

It's a ghost story and one of those books you can't put down when you start reading. Another paranormal /mystery book I read was Tim Bowler's Frozen Fire:

It starts with a phone call. “I’m dying,” a voice tells Dusty. Who is he and how has he gotten her cell number? Dusty wants no part of this strange boy . . . until he begins saying things that only someone who knows her intimately could say—things that lead her to think he knows the whereabouts of her brother, who disappeared over a year ago. Suddenly drawn in, Dusty very much wants to save this boy. Trouble is, she cannot find him. Part human, part spirit, he won’t let himself be found. He is too dangerous, he says. There are mobs of people who agree and who want to see this boy dead . . . and who will hurt anyone who stands in their way. A gripping, hair-raising mystery about a boy not of this world, and a girl determined to protect him.

The last one I read was Echoes Of The Dead by Johann Theorin:

On a gray September day, on an island off the coast of Sweden, six -year -old Jens Davidsson ventured out of his backyard, walked out into a fog, and vanished….Now twenty years have passed, the boy’s mother returns to the place where her son disappeared, drawn by a chilling package sent in the mail… In it, lovingly wrapped, is one of Jens’ sandals—sandals Julia Davidsson put on her son’s feet that very last morning. Now, with only a handful of clues, Julia and her father are questioning islanders who were present the day Jens vanished—and making a shocking connection to Öland’s most notorious murder case: the killing spree of a wealthy young man who fled the island and died years before Jens was even born. Suddenly the island that once seemed so achingly familiar turns strange and dangerous… Until Julia finds herself facing truths she never imagined—about what really happened on that September day twenty years ago, about who may have crossed paths with little Jens in the fog, and how a child could truly vanish without a trace…until now.

The book kept me guessing up to the last page Mira and it was hard to put down. Anyway I hope I've managed to get those taste buds going with these books. Take care and let me know what you plan on reading next. Bye!

True but I like the show too. It's like being able to look at the Sookieverse (the books) and the alternate timeline Sookieverse (the TV show.) I honestly never pictured Anna Paquin as Sookie though.

Hi Mira, I haven't read many of the Buffy titles either but am a huge fan of the show. Have you ever watched it? If not it o.k. What are you reading at the moment? I am reading Kat Richardson's 4th book in the Greywalker series. Have you read them? Here's a quick synopsis of each book:

    Book 1 'Greywalker'
Recovering from a near-fatal accident in which she dies for two minutes, Seattle Private Investigator Harper Blaine develops the ability to move through the Grey: the realm of ghosts, vampires, witches, and magic that exists between our world and the next. Harper wants her life to return to normal, but when her clients turn out to be paranormal, the reluctant Greywalker is drawn into the affairs of ambitious vampires and angry ghosts. As her cases converge, Harper uncovers a plot that threatens Seattle's Grey world and must choose between honor and survival.

    Book 2 'Poltergeist'
Halloween is approaching when Harper agrees to investigate the members of a research group who've been attempting to create an artificial poltergeist. The head researcher suspects someone's been faking the phenomena, but Harper's investigation reveals something entirely different--they've succeeded. When one of the group's members is killed in a brutal and inexplicable fashion, Harper must determine if the murderer is the ghost itself or someone all too human.

    In Book 3 'Underground
Pioneer Square's homeless are turning up dead and mutilated, and zombies have been seen roaming the underground--the city buried beneath modern Seattle. When Harper's friend Quinton believes he may be implicated in the deaths, he persuades her to investigate. But the killer is no mere murderer--it is a creature of ancient legend. And Harper must deal with both the living and the dead to stop the monster and its master...unless they stop her first.

    In Book 4 Vanished
For Seattle investigator Harper Blaine, her own case may prove the most difficult to solve. Why did she as opposed to others with near death experiences become a Greywalker? When Harper begins digging into her own past, she unearths some unpleasant truths about her father's early death as well as a mysterious puzzle. She sets out to find his ghost but encounters only a void where he should be, leaving her with more unanswered questions. Before she can continue her search, Harper gets an offer she can't refuse to go to London and pursue an investigation on behalf of some very demanding vampires. But there are unpleasant surprises waiting for her, and Harper soon discovers her present trouble in England is entangled with her dark past back in Seattle and her ultimate destiny as a Greywalker.

They are not too bad. I'm more of a vampire fanatic to tell you the truth and would appreciate any book recommendations based on them. Anyway take care Mira (love your name) and chat soon. Bye!!
