I love to read. Well, not really, because that's rather too tame a description for my habit. I get positively a-quiver over the new release sections at my local Barnes and Noble and have to whip out my Droid and start requesting lotsandlots of what I'm looking at from my library, have 700+ books on my to read list (and if I'm being honest,... more »

This was a surprisingly bad, unoriginal, and often ridiculous book. The characters are one dimensional (and often not even that), the plot is trite, and often simply boring. Really. Despite those problems, the worst part of the silly book would have to be the prophecy. It was so unbelievably contrived and ridiculous that I couldn't really believe what I was reading, and acted to destroy the remaining suspension of disbelief necessary to derive any enjoyment from the story (sometimes rhyme schemes are not appropriate, and this was most certainly the case). Let's not even go near the wanton slaughter of multiple mythologies.... I really enjoy Laurie's other books, which land squarely in the 'mindless fun' category. Sadly, this departure from her norm is not a resounding success.

This isn't a business book, it's a self-help/guru book masquerading as something useful. Full of confusing, run-on sentences and jarring religious references, the business advice seem to be a retread of earlier books and merely an excuse for self-promotion. More than anything else, it reads like the speech given by a keynote speaker at a fluffy and overpriced 'conference' who has been giving a little too much time to the vodka and not enough to the writing.

Really disappointing. Unoriginal, derivative, and not worth the reading. I couldn't help comparing it to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and this books falls far short. Most of the characters are strong stereotypes, without any added complexity or depth to break them out of the stereotypical moulds. The supporting characters are particularly flat - the horrible stepsister, the feisty outcast and her best male friend who are the only ones to talk to our main character. I've only read that particular setup, oh, 30+ times. Really didn't care for the 'moral lessons in understanding other people' that were forced down the reader's throat periodically.
If, like me, you are a big fan of old fairy tales and gods retold and set in modern times, there are much better options out there than this one.
