I love to read as I'm sure most Shelfari users do. I've recently become interested in fiction and am looking for books that tell an enthralling story while giving insight into various issues, countries, cultures, history, people, etc.

Hi! It took me a long time to figure out where the heck this was!

I liked it, but I thought he was weak. I wish he would have grown a spine, but I've been disappointed in fiction lately! It seems the whole world has a gloomy outlook.

Currently reading a compilation of American contemporary short stories. 'Nuff said...

I did like this one though: Leiningen versus the Ants: http://www.classicshorts.com/stories/lvta.html Be ready to itch though!!!! At some point I want to read more on this site.

    XOXOXO

Hahaha! That's fantastic. Are they fanpires? Will they kill you with their pointy teeth and suck your blood? ;-)

I saw that you read How To Break A Terrorist and thought you might want to toss in your two cents here:

That's cool. Feel free whenever, or even comment if you just happen to have read something we're reading. We're really laid back in both the groups I admin. I totally understand being busy and all that jazz. I got so excited about shelfari when I first joined, that now I'm overwhelmed with people to read things with - before I was whining that I had no one to talk books with, and now I'm constantly in the state of: "Everyone is reading this, I have to finish it in time to talk about it!" Its both wonderful and ridiculous.

That's fantastic. Don't worry about what they say... the whole point of shelfari is to have a varying range of opinions. That's how you get a proper discussion, not everyone needs (or even should) agree. It would be boring if everyone thought the same things about everything. I think that's one thing a lot of people don't understand about the "did you find this review helpful" question. If its well stated with reasons to back it up (just like papers for school) then YES its a good review. If its just a blanket statement about nothing, then no its not. Its not about whether you agree or disagree, its about whether the review helps people see the book in either new light or just better light. If you have time for it, I'd love for you to read along in my Classical Re-Education group. There will be a lot of solid literature and such... well, I'll let you just go check out the group :-D

Oh, also, since you like cultural fiction... try Manil Suri's Death of Vishnu if you haven't already. Its fantastic. Along with anything by Dai Sijie.

Have you read Seduction of Place? Its an urban studies architecture book that is insanely fascinating and well written. It might be one of those deeper reads you're looking for, my book club just finished it recently. Thanks for the add!

I really liked your review of Twilight. I have to admit, despite it being complete fluff, I did find it entertaining and I understand a little about why its so popular... people have unrealistic views of romance and this shallow version of "love" and "passion" suits the masses. Edward acts like how a fourteen year old girl would act if she were a boy. I just wanted to tell you that I thought your review was well stated and I'd like to be added as your friend. Thanks for reading.

Looks like you have some books on meditation and chakras. I've been looking for great books about these as well as zen, being present and mindful. It seems you have a very similar taste in books as I do. I'm interested to know which of these books resonate with you. Happy reading!
