I am a reader. Fiction is my pleasure and my current obsession is urban fantasy aka dark fantasy. I enjoy mystery and science fiction.
If you are looking for a new friend, but dont read a lot of the same things I do, then we wont have much to talk about.
If you have more friends than books on your shelf, I am probably not your best...more »

That's funny. I had the same problem the last couple of weeks. After gorging out on books galore and doing nothing else. I get to a little ole 250 pager and it was good but I couldn't focus and I couldn't keep reading, I started finding myself doing everything else but reading. That can be so annoying. I think I am finally over the hump though. I just read about a 100 pages straight in Witch Blood. I have only read 4 books this month so far. Sheesh. It started with The diamond slipper by Jane Feather and then when I got to Breaking Dawn 700pgs though....It took me 7 days. 7!!! I liked it too. The lastly here The screwtape letters I kinda picked up the pace but only slowly. I am starting to finally feel normal again. I actually made myself depressed for a few days when I couldn't get Breaking Dawn read. LMAO

I like that story about your Bday party. LOL I am one of those people opposite of a control freek. In fact when I am in charge of a simple thing like a small birthday party that I put toooo much pressure on myself and then I turn into a raving basketcase of nerves. Scares my family to much so they usually handle it all. Besides, my husband actually loves to plan that stuff. I might of married him for that alone. LOL In fact the last Birthday party I planned was my oldest daughters 7th birthday with tons of kids and family and I made and decorated the cake and the food and punch and shopped for it all. We had grab bags and a pinata. Yup lots happened since then. My oldest is now about to be 20. Crazy huh. Which day is the party and when should I expect my invite in the mail? J/K

Are you a Sudoku player? So am I. Playing a game Sudoku can clear my mind of other "stuff" - makes me focus on something else when things are bothering me. At least sometimes!

Hey Kimmer, thanks for the friend add. I'd say start with Watchmen, mainly becasue of the film coming out and everyone will be talking about it. It's also a great read and the most respected comic book ever produced.

i've never read i am invincible. what's it about? hope to hear back.

Hi Kimmer, welcome to Play Book Tag! I just want to let you know the activities that PBT currently has going on so that you can jump in and get involved! Firstly, every month a member picks a random tag from the top 200 Shelfari tags, July's tag is fairy tales. The members then read books that have this tag (or if you just think it fits in the genre that's good enough for us, we're not too picky) and posts short reviews of them on the discussion entitled July tag: our collective reads for our shelf. From there, intelligent conversation abounds...at the very least, interesting conversation abounds :) We are coming to the end of the month and August's tag will be announced on the 27th. If you are interested in getting in a fairy tale, there are lots of really cute children's books that qualify.

Second, we have a new game that started July 1: Tag it to the Max. This game is a bit more complicated but the general idea is that againstthetide(one of the admins) will randomly assign you a starting tag from the top 200 Shelfari tags. Then, you would work your way consecutively through the list, reading one book per tag and earning points for them as well as reviews. If you are interested, check out the full rules listed under the discussion Rules for Tag it to the Max. You can then sign up under the discussion Sign up for Tag it to the Max. This game has been underway for a couple of weeks thus far but is running through August so you still have plenty of time!

Answers to other commonly asked questions, as well as rules for some fun get-to-know-you games we often play can be found on the thread FAQ for new members. Also, you can always ask me or anyone of our helpful admins any questions that you may have!

Oh my gosh, your shelf is out of control! I haven't looked through all of it but I definitely plan on revisiting it. I did notice that you have read all of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books. I am just getting ready to start the third one...I LOVE them! :)

    See you on PBT!

    Happy reading,
    Nicole

    Aloha Kim,
I just got through "The Legend of Bagger Vance" and learned more about golf than I ever needed to know but the concept was really great! I'm reading Maui Whispers right now but it seems a little trite. I'm taking a course in writing your memoirs and having good fun. It is almost like an encounter group but we aren't allowed to discuss anything about what the other person writes unless it is to critique the writing style. I had to pull teeth to get the time off from work...
    Love, Aunty Peggy

Oh we are so much alike in many ways. I agree about the number of friends larger than the bookshelf. Or the bookshelf that is unbelievably long in the multi-10,000s (there are couple) or those who are members of ALL the groups! whew - no one has that kind of time!

And you like libraries! Our library is part of a system that currenly has 13 members and branches. We are a separate municipal library rather than a branch but a full member of the system. Well, that probably makes no sense at all - but but we, too, ship books between libraries. Phoenix has a great reputation in the library world.

What attracts you about the children's books at the libraries? I started out as a volunteer in the school library, and when hired at a small public library, I was put in charge of the summer reading program. This was before I got my MLS. I have two sons who grew up with me reading to them so I was exposed to lots of good children's lit. Now my grandsons know they can get me to read to them when we spend time together.

Charlaine Harris - I've only read one of her series but am tempted by the others - I have some on them on my TBR and brought one of them home from the library just the other day. I don't get HBO but those shows eventually show up on CD and/or another independent station so I'll watch out for it.

One of the bad things about this site is that I love jumping around and finding people of similar interests and checking out their shelves, getting ideas, communicating and ITS CUTTING INTO MY READING TIME. So I have to learn how to get a balance going. Right now I'm reading Evanovich - Fearless Fourteen and I have to have it done by Monday! So TTFN and I'll be seeing you around.

I started to read the note you sent me with the invitation for friendship and it was cut off because it came to the end of the box. Since I'd already decided that I would accept, I clicked the "accept" button expecting to read the rest of your note - it disappeared! If you still have it, how about cutting and pasting back to me? I've looked all over my pages and can't find the original - isn't that weird! I'm going to go back and look some more but I feel like I just had something nice just taken away :-(
