I was an English major at the University of South Carolina. I love to read. I now teach second grade. Reading is my main hobby. I am always looking for the next best book.

    Eclectic Book Club Peeps:

All righty, let's have those nominations for our next big read. What's everyone in the mood for?

Post your selections in the "Genres" thread and we'll hash it out. If that takes too much energy, I will put all genres nominated in a hat and pick one at random!

Interp. of Murder is good, but I feel like I have to qualify that with an explanation. It's very heavy on Freud and Jung. I majored in Psych in college, so it was almost like reading a tell-all fiction about a celebrity for me. I knew what the author was getting at because I'd read about the two. I think most people have enough of a general understand of early psychology to figure out what's going on, but I've read reviews that skewered the author for dragging out the "boring" crap about the psychologists. The mystery gets a little lost in the details.
PS: I love the pic of your dog! He(she?) looks just like my Angus. But sweeter...

Last time I left recommendations I saw you had read them all! Oops! Have you read any Barbara Kingsolver other than the Poisonwood Bible...her other books are even better! I also really enjoyed Missing Mom by Joyce Carol Oates.

Thanks for your note! Yes, I was an elementary Reading teacher /Reading Specialist for 20 years. I taught mostly 3rd grade & loved it. I retired when my husband's job relocated us to another country. I have thought of returning to the classroom since we've moved back, but we formed our own company & so I work w/ that doing accts. pay./rec., etc. I love working in my jammies & browsing shelfari when I'm supposed to entering invoices! From 6th to 2nd is a big difference! How are you faring w/ the younger ones?

Is that a baby Westie I see?! How cute!!!! I saw in your profile you taught 2nd grade. I taught 3rd for years. I love the children at that age; still so loving & full of life & anxious to learn.

    Hi Kim,
Any book on my shelf is one that I would recommend, that's how I decide which books will go on. Off the top of my head, some of my favorites are Life of Pi, the Time Traveler's Wife and Middlesex. I'll let you know more. Cute dog!
