Hi Kiki! Thanks for staying in touch, always great to hear from you. I loved "Olive Kittridge" too. Right now I am reading "This is Where I leave you" by Jonathon Tropper, it is pretty good, and I just finished "A Friend of the Family"...they are both just okay, not ones I love. I think the William Trevor is going to be great, "Love and Summer".

I'm up in the middle of the night and turned on the TV.....as I clicked away I noticed a book on the screen we both have read....Clara's War. And there she was holding a gathering of some sort on CSPAN. What an aware, alert, intelligent wonderful 82 year old. Of all of the books on this subject of survival of the holocaust, I really enjoyed hers the best.

Hiya...sorry for getting back to you so late. But I now share your affliction (Work...YECH!!) and have had hardly any time to myself. And, in addition, I'm the production assistant on a short film. So, even my weekends are not free. Dunno what I'm functioning on at the moment...it certainly isn't joy and joie de vivre!
My name is Kiron because my dad's name is Ravi, which means The sun. Bit ironic, actually, that I'm named for him cos we don't exactly get along very well; I'm more of a mummy's girl! **snicker**

**raises and eyebrow** And why would your husband pretend to be you? **tch, tch** Boys never really do grow up, do they? I have a younger brother and he and my dad are constantly bickering like old fish wives, or they're keeping up a running convo alongside a football game...exchanging the biographies of the players, and the history of the team and such. Very weird, if you ask me.

It isn't my mum who's talking to me about tying the knot. It's our priest who's doing that. You see, we're a very close-knit community because there are very few Syrian Christians in the country, even the world. So, we know each others family histories and we feel like we have to look out for each other, to the point of meddling, cos no one else will. So, knowing that there are very few eligible bachelors left is giving our priest palpitations.

That was some great coffee. **snicker** Let's try some hazelnut next time (YUM!) **grins and waves**
    Toodles, Kiron.

I've been thinking of you all week and have been meaning to write you back.
I haven't read The Night Journal and can't recall who's shelf I found it on. I'm currently reading The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. (this one was from Sabina's shelf.) =D
A very quick and yet good read is a y/a book I read in an afternoon called If I Stay. It was really an emotional book. I used it as a filler while I was waiting for my other books to come in the library. I'm glad I read it.
Oh my goodness! My son is loving all of the books you suggested and I found this great book scale on scholastic.com that can give suggestions based on a favorite book, reading level, (increased or decreased by three grades) and interest levels as well. I'm finding that he can read better than I thought. =/ Sneaky booger. LOL The chapter books interest him, but also intimidate him. So we're working our way up with the smaller chapter books.
Thank you again. He's really lovin' it!

My apologies for taking my own sweet time in replying to your post but my net was taking all its frustrations out on me...still is, in fact. So, this has to be rather brief. I'll probably be dragged offline in a bit.
Speaking of names that are unisex... that's exactly what mine is. It's Kiron, which means ray of the sun. And most people who either hear of me, or hear my voice on the phone, without meeting me in person, think I'm a guy. It makes for some pretty interesting conversation later on.
My mum had me when she was 24 - three years after she married my dad, who was 8 yrs her senior. Indian women don't believe in waiting, I think. That's probably what makes me an anomaly; 22 and contemplating neither marriage nor children. The fact that I never want either seems to mystify most people. ARGH! They won't get off my case about it either. But I don't understand women who want children but are unwilling to have them at a younger age, when the safe delivery of both, the child and mother, from the birthing room is guaranteed. Why would anyone want to risk the life of either one?
    P.S. Make mine a coffee and it's a deal.

Great!! I look forward to chatting with you on that group. Hope your spouse gets your computer working soon, for your sake. Have fun at work on Thursday, I am off to school at 12:30. Class starts at 2:00 but it takes an hour to get there and then I have to find parking and then walk to class, by that time it's 1:45!!

I've been in class so I couldn't respond to you right away after I read the review ;). It might not have been an elaborate review (I dislike the very same thing in reviews), but it gave me an idea on the book, so that's fantastic!

Thanks so much for getting back to me with your thoughts on the book, Kiki. I'll definitely give your review a look, and I've already added the book to my shelf. Too bad that it's not officially released yet, lol, but I'll simply have to exercise my patience.

Oh keep them coming! I loved your suggestions. And you're right it's a challenge to keep enough books around. we've been going to the library about twice a week. =) and I found new Jigsaw Jones books that the other libraries in the county have so I'm putting them on hold and delivered to our local branch. ha ha ha.
I'll email you privately about the other...

Lol...you're right of course. Normally I would ignore it. But there was something in that post where he/she assumed I'd had an easy life...I don't even know this person! LOL...I'm laughing now...and to some extent because of you
    THANK YOU!
Looking again...that screw loose is probably true...the long passages with such intensity (?) as If its non-fiction. Scary.

Audrey's book...I took a look after your note...oh no...I avoid horror and scary stuff. With some arm twisting I have read some
stephen king and the book Alien a long time ago. If you know SK's The Stand, that's about as far as I like to go.

After you finish her book, could you let me know how scary it is? I love the way she creates characters, but I can't do the real scary stuff.

Thanks again for your note...and I love your little tweety birds!

Just had awesome week of birthdays and anniversaries (sibs and families got together yesterday to fete our folks in honor of their 61st anniv., and 3 of us have our anniv. within 3 weeks of one another--all double digits--happy times)

When you mention illness, you or family, or a shared bout of virus? Hope health is flooding back into your system(s)!

This soft economy has brought both daughter(22), then son(20) home to roost for a bit to build up some savings. It's an adventure, but the help with lawn-mowing/wood-gathering/sanding and painting kitchen cabinets is always welcome.

I have a stack of books waiting for me, but every sunny day I'm out picking berries or working in our gardens. Summers are so short here....What have you read lately that you'd recommend?
