I love to read since I was a little girl. Working in a bookstore makes it easy for me to read, because reading and advice people what to read is my job. (Oh, what a punishment!) It gives me a chance to... more »

Hi Monique, Well, we aren't totally art-impovershed here in Los Angeles. I just spent the afternoon at the Norton Simon Museum-- they have a little of everything-- I was looking at their Rubens and Bellini today. I never really appreciated pre-19th stuff before-- as I get older, my taste gets broader. But tell me: do you know Breughel's "Two Monkeys"? My book says that the nutshells refer to a Netherlands proverb, "to go to court for the sake of a hazelnut." What does that mean? And why did Breughel leave Antwerp for Brussels?

Hi Monique, I've been thinking of you...I've been buying alot of books on art history lately...and have been looking at alot of Bosch and Breughel. I hadn't known that Bosch was Flemish! Anyways, I really envy you living in Europe, near all those great museums. My dream now is to on a museum tour-- I've been gathering catalogs from the Prado, the Louvre, etc...so that when I one day have enough money (hah!), I will buy a cheap air ticket and a Eurrail pass and simply spend all my time seeing all the 1000 paintings that I must see before I die! And of course I will come and visit you because Early Netherlandish painting and Van Gogh are at the top of my list! But alas-- first I have to save some money...when I was younger I always that being a starving writer was romantic...now I see there are major disadvantages. Anyways, one day, one day...Maybe when I finish my novel it will be translated into Dutch! Ha! Ben

Yeah, I would've worked in a bookstore, but I'm terrible at selling stuff....
I also wish for more hours in a day, maybe then I could read all the books on my "plan to read" list
What are some popular books in the Netherlands and at your bookstore? I always like to compare and see oif its close to the US and Canada.

You know... I love the convenience of ebooks, I love that I can eat at read easily at the same time, I love that it takes me 30 seconds to get a new book, and I love that it fits in my purse. BUT... It will NEVER be as good as a real book, there is just something about the way they make me feel, how happy I get when I smell the fresh paper and ink, the sound the glue makes the first time you crack the binding. I would live in a library if I could... The beauty of them on the shelves sitting there, waiting to be explored just speaks to me..makes me calm

How are you doing? I sure enjoyed your profile page on face book. and your photos that you posted. Smile.
I just re-read the Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. That is a great book. Then after that , I read the Road by Cormac McCarthy. Have you read that one? It is a great book, a really different style of writing. Took me some getting used to. He won the Pultizer Prize for it and it is #1 on the national bestsleller's list. It is about to be a movie too. It is a hopeless tale, and very sad. But it speaks of a father's love of his son, and the son's love and devotion to his father. The author discribes the posthumas conditon of nature and civillization to a tea. You can just "see" it before you as you read. You ought to give it a try, if you have not yet. It is different for sure, which I enjoyed. I like to open myself up to new adventures in reading, I know you do too.

Hi Monique! Sorry I took so long getting to you. You live in the Netherlands...how cool is that?? I like the House of Night series. It is a fun easy read. After book 1 it really took off for me. I really like the main character, Zoey. Twilight is my favorite by far...nothing can compare to it for me. I dont know why...maybe the innocence of it? Of course Edward being the perfect man is probably a big factor. LOL Oh, I like Rob as Edward...but I know a lot of people didn't. I think it just depends on how you pictured him. i liked the movie, but I think that it was very rushed. One minute he didnt want to be friends and then the next minute they were in love...to rushed. I am really excited about New Moon. I hope having a new director that it will be awesome. i hope I am not let down!! : ) NO...I havet read any of Anne Rice. But that is definitley in my to be read list. Have you read them?

Vampire books....um...yeah I can help with that!! : ) Have you heard of the Southern Vampires?? It is also called The Sookie Stackhouse Series. Those are good. They dont have just vamps...they have shape shifters, and fairy's and were's...one of my favorite series. And The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series...I am on book 2 and I love them. Much more adult then twilight. I havent read any of Mary Janice Davidson but she is on my to be read list. They look funny as heck. Vampires with humor is my kind of book!!! Check those out and see if they might interest you. They are on my "shelf" just so you know!!!

I'm sure you're not as behind as I am on 100+. I've only read about 30 so far. This is the first time I've done a reading challenge (besides the ones I did for school when I was a kid). At this rate, I'll be lucky if I make it to 50. I haven't really been keeping up with PBT at all. Lately, I've been exclusively reading vampire/paranormal young adult novels. I've been trying to delve deeper into the fantasy genre and enjoying the journey.

we do have a bunch of books in common, and thank you for the approval!

i write what i like to read. paranormal action/romance. i focus alot of leading female characters who can handle their own with the big boys...but ver very VERY rarely have to ask for help. i enjoy a good strong female. i've never been a fan of the damsil in distress characters.

i wish i could work in a books store! that would be something work getting uo in the morning for!!!!
