Really enjoyed this book, probably my favorite of the series so far. I'd definitely like to own the series to share with my own children in the future - it's a shame it's out of print. I can see why these books are so popular with home schooling families as well - you can do whole unit studies with them from biology (using gardening to teach science) to math (with baking, bean counting, etc.) and character education along with the obvious - reading and writing.

Really liked this book. Cried in the chapter about Christmas, it was just so touching, for reasons you will discover all on your own. Have the next book in the series on hold at the library and am excited to read it! They are, sadly, out of publication now but I am still adding them to my wish list to share with my own children some day.

Enjoyed this story, looking forward to the next one. Bummed that most of this "series" is out of print.

I loved the original series by Laura Ingalls and am thoroughly enjoying the story of her mother's childhood. So many object lessons and opportunities to expand the story, from baking and gardening to math and science. It is no wonder so many home schoolers and other teachers use these books as the basis for curricula.

A bittersweet conclusion to The Giver trilogy, a deceptively easy read with great depth. Definitely a "kid's" book that adults and teens would enjoy. Great opportunities for discussion.

It took me a while to get into this book. I did not at first identify with the protagonist Tris - let's be honest in the world of fations, I'd be Candor/Erudite/Abnegation and she hates Erudite. (Ouch!) . . . But as the relationships were developed I fquickly found the book to be one I could not put down. I stayed up until the wee hours to finish it and am excited to see what happens next.

Should be called "Rebecca's Surprise" in keeping with the American Girl title name conventions as it is a holiday story and the third book in the series. A fun, quick read about how a girl grapples with the faith and traditions of her Jewish family and how to balance them with what she is learning in school about Christmas. A touching and happy ending, got me a little choked up, a good story to share at the holidays.

This is a good coming of age story about knowing oneself and finding a place in the world. It is a short book and fairly easy to read with probably slightly more appeal to girls than boys.

This book should be called "Rebecca Learns a Lesson" - in keeping with the title name conventions of the other American Girl historical series. It is the second book of the Rebecca series and the plot revolves around school and her relationship with her cousin, Ana, who is fresh off the boat from Russia. A simple plot that provides many jumping off points for further cultural and historical study.

It's nice to add a Jewish girl to the group, still awaiting an Asian American of some flavor, but I'm sure it will come. As with all of the American girl books, this is a short easy-to-read chapter book with broad appeal, augmented by historical setting information in the back. I wish they had stuck with the Title Name conventions so it would be easier to figure out what the next book in the series is though. Why fix it if it ain't broke?
