I am SO sad that I have reached the most recently published of this series...now I have to WAIT! Seriously, if you haven't gotten to it, get to it now. Ask for it for Christmas or Hannukah or whatever you can ask for, it's that good.
His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade, Black Powder War, Empire of Ivory, and Victory of Eagles.

too much story, not enough interest. this book is HUGE and it is all in what seems like a 10 point font. "too much"

I couldn't muster up any care for the characters or the story line...alas, it had to be abandoned :(

To me, this was like bad porn, everyone just seemed bored. It was plenty gory but less scary than a Lassie episode. Plus it kept referring to earlier books in the series. I may start the series later and see if it's any better starting from the beginning but it is a bit doubtful.

Silly, pointless, and a spineless heroine from the get go...a triple whammy. I doubt I made it more than a chapter in to the book before I just had to abandon ship.

The heroine is so clueless that it is frustrating but I identified with her so well in some areas. Not the so-beautiful-it's-a-hindrance area but not being able to relate to your peers, feeling different from everyone else, dealing with unwanted attention (positive or negative), not being able to control anything in your life...I sympathized and empathized (and any other -athize that is appropriate) with Mike. I like that it took her too long to realize the important things in life. I like that she had to go through some major heartache and make stupid, idiotic mistakes before she got there. This book, while no great literary shooting star, was imminently enjoyable and compulsively readable and it resonated with me throughout. Highly recommended!

Pursued thugs, monsters and dead men through the mist-shrouded streets of Victorian London, a pickpocket, a clock restorer and a clergyman's daughter are in a race for their lives to discover what is behind the strange events at the estate of an eccentric millionaire.

Great adventure story and keeps you on the edge of your seat 'til the very end! The author's website is worth a visit too!

What a powerful story! Watching Melinda struggle to come to terms with what happened to her, her parents' benign neglect, the cruelty of her classmates...this should be required middle school reading to make everyone more aware of date and acquaitance rape and its associations with drugs and alcohol. Melinda could be the heroine of many a young girl.

It seems silly to click "Add Your Opinion" then to say that there are no words for it but that's where I am on this book. I think Cafe Press needs to market an "I Love Ed Kennedy" or "Love Me, Love The Doorman" bumper sticker....I'd buy both. If you haven't read this yet, read it! Better yet, do Mr. Zusak a favor and go buy your own crisp, hardback copy!

    SPOILER ALERT--SPOILER ALERT--SPOILER ALERT--SPOILER ALERT

I actually listened to the audio format of this book and was enchanted. I am reading a lot of YA lit for a class and picked this just from the blurb on the back. Now I'd like to buy it for my personal collection.

I do believe that alot of the storyline was a little over the top, but I have a generously developed suspension-of-disbelief capability and I firmly believe I enjoy life more because of it :-)

Another point was the abruptness of the ending. Did Jenny and her mom ever develop a healthy relationship? Did Jenny and Billy end up as couple and what about the baby? Where did Helen's daughter come from?

The ending seemed a bit rushed and loosely tacked on but, saying that, I do have to admit that I wiped not a few runaway tears from my cheeks. Helen was just so heartbroken and contrite that it broke MY heart...
