Hi Kickinlibrarian! Just wanted to let you know that a new group has just started for Anne McCaffrey:http://www.shelfari.com/groups/43659/aboutyou should join and help me get it rolling! Thanks!Cam
Dear Kickin: I wonder if your library carries my novel? HUNTING THE KING was published in Apriil. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. PeterBy the way, my next novel, ALBERTVILLE, takes place in Alabama and the Congo.
I just finisheed Dewey and it is a 4 tissue ending. I've been avoiding Twilight and considering that it means being caught in a vortex, I think it's a good idea! I'll need to be on a long vacation before I start it.
I see you are reading Dewey as am I. In fact, there is such demand at our library that I have it on a short loan period. I read most of it today and I'll be finishing it off tomorrow. It is easy for me to relate; I hope you'll ike it too.
I most definitely will have to try the Dark Hunter series. Thank you for such excellent suggestions. I think it's cool you get to read novels before they are published.
I have not read anything by Laurell K. Hamilton but pick one out for me and I shall try it. I love vampires. I will start the host this week. I am very excited about that. Tell me what you think of the host. And no it won't ruin it for me.
I'm jealous of your books! They alll look so awsome
I love looking through your shelf! You always pick interesting books and not all in the same genre. Every time I look you have more I want to add! How do you find time to read so much?
I'm inrigued by The Seamstress and plan to add it to my shelf of those I plan to read. There are not enough hours in the day...
Now that's a review! You've got my vote. I love books that throw you out of your comfort zone. Life isn't easy, if you don't fall you never learn. I also like the fact that "Gargoyle" sounds like a metaphor of the main character.
My TBR is currently 413 books!! That's not teetering, its Mount Everest! I do the book reviews for fiction for out library and I'm always finding more to put on my list. It doesn't help that I have very broad tastes in genre - I'll read almost anything that has a good review. I've worked in Public Libraries since the early 80s, started out as an Assistant while working on my education. Since then I've worked at all the jobs, from Children's Services to Cataloging to Administration. For a short while I worked in a small college library but I dearly love the public library and missed keeping up with the new fiction most of all.
I read what you said about The Historian on another's page. It seems that you were really enjoying it. I loved it too. I listened to The Historian on CD in my car. Its one of my favorites, a story and sense of tension that I won't forget soon. I "read" it when it first came out. Just thought I'd share, I love hearing that others like books I do. You also have Garden Spells and Sugar Queen on your shelf. I loved those too. Have you heard of the Alienist? Another great book. I'm also a librarian; in a public library - you? Happy Reading!
I read Poison study, but wasn't impressed enough with the back of Magic Study to read it also. Was it as good? There is a third book out now too.
I hadn't heard of Brunonia Barry's The Lace Reader. But it looks good. I will add it to my "planning to read" shelf. Did you read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell? - Sorry, being lazy and not checking your shelf!
Thanks for the info about "The Historian". (Budapest is awesome! I would highly recommend it as a vacation spot, although I know library salaries are not the greatest.)Have you read The Thirteenth Tale? Check out Homewood library's blog - I put a post on it there earlier in the year. I'm not sure if I added the review to my shelf or not.
Oh, I just realised I was still logged in under Gardendale Staff and not jenne j!
I see you are reading "The Historian" - is it any good? I have been looking at it on the library shelf for a while thinking about taking it out. Don't you just love Noami Novik! I just finished "Victory of Eagles" and it was better than the last!
Thanks for joining Women Speak. We love hearing what you have to say. I hope you are enjoying yourself there and will invite your women friends to join as well.
Interesting selection of books, I see some of my favourites and lots I've never heard of. I'll be looking out for a few of yours when I make some space on my shelf at home again!
