Kerdie

I'm a junior in college...going for a medical degree/microbiology degree. I've loved reading my entire life just because that's the only place I ever truely felt that I fit in. Books never let me down, so I just stuck with it!!!

Hi there! I'm just dropping by to welcome you to The 100+ Book Challenge. The idea of the group is pretty much self explanatory - try to read 100 or more books in a one year period. If you do have any questions, please feel free to send a message to me or Tenia. In the meantime, good luck reaching your goal!

That doesn't sound corny at all. I read for the same reasons. As a child, I read all the time and it was a great escape. I loved it. I gave up reading for pleasure when I got into college, and through the birth of my kids (although I always read children's books to them). When my daughter became as avid a reader as me, I finally got back into reading for pleasure because one of our favorite things to do is read together with our respective books. And no matter how stressful a day it has been, going into the fictional world is a great relaxer.

The second book I read from Joan Hohl that I really enjoyed was Another Spring. That didn't have the marriage of convenience theme. It was just a good story both of romance and friendship. You might enjoy that one.

I give you lots of credit. When I was in college I didn't take the time to read for pleasure, but I wish I had. Might have reduced my stress.

If it's any consolation re: the book you're reading now, as I was looking for more Joan Hohl books to read after I enjoyed the first from her I read, reading through some reviews of her stuff, I Do was one book that kept coming up as not one of her best. I made a note to myself on the list I keep of authors I like or want to try to avoid that title. So it probably isn't indicative of all her writing.

    Hope you enjoy the recommendations!

I'm glad my advice works for you. It sounds like you're as big a reader as I am. I read 2-3 books a week sometimes, so it'd be easy to get bored.

I don't read a lot of paranormal books, but I do love Katie MacAlister's vampire paranormals (she's also very funny). For more serious paranormals, I like JR Ward's vampire books, and Karen Marie Moning's Highlander books are among my top 5 favorite series. I know several people who enjoy Marjorie M. Liu and Lynsay Sands is popular, although I haven't read any books of theirs myself.

I completely understand. I've actually given up a couple authors because, while I loved everything I'd read from them. after a while I could see the patterns and it got boring. One thing that helps that is rotating through authors, rather than glomming all the books from one author in a row. Another thing I found helps is switching genres if there's more than one you like. I only read romances, but within that genre are contemporary, romantic comedy, paranormal, historical, etc. I have fave authors in each genre, and I switch around to keep from getting bored with one author's work.

Joan Hohl definitely has a very compelling method of writing that pulls you into the story and makes you feel the emotion of the characters. I had a similar experience with romance novels. Once I read one, I couldn't stop reading them and now it's what I read exclusively.

I recently finished My Own by Joan Hohl. Although I've read some books I loved by her, this one was just so-so for me. I loved the backstory of the characters and felt the story had a lot of potential. In the end, though, I wished that the hero and heroine hadn't been kept apart by so many misunderstandings. For me, that took away from the story somewhat.
