Yes, we're taking a class in web construction this fall. At 7:30 tonight they finished painting, so repairs, remodeling & roof from the storm on Feb 11th are now completed. Too tired to even shout! Haven't been on line much either. We're glad its over so we can get back on track as it has been difficult to write.

    Hi,

May I invite you to check out the “April Read Discussion” in Vistas of Kentucky Readers and Authors’ group. My “The Bluegrass Dream” is featured. It is a historical novel about the early settlers coming over the Alleghenies into the wilderness of Kentucky.

Join the Vistas of KY & Appalachian Readers & Authors group as Gail Chandler discusses her book, "The Bluegrass Dream: A Wilderness Adventure of Early Settlers. Here is a brief synopsis of the plot:

In the middle of a snow storm Jess and her Aunt delivered a stillborn that took the life of Uncle David's wife. Devastated by her Father's death in Kentucky Jess vowed to fulfill his dream of life in Kentucky. Dressed in her twin brother's clothes she tried to follow David to the Bluegrass. Weather, Digger and Hutch two Bluegrass long hunters she met, and Indians made her trip very difficult. She reached the Bluegrass on her own and with her neighbor's help she builds her cabin. Then she shared her secret with them. Digger and Hutch returned to the Bluegrass. Hutch found Jess is Jessica and their friction continued. Bandit and Outlaw, Jess' coons added pranks to her life. David and his party arrived, Jess takes in Lightfoot's runaway sister Fawn, then James and Katherine joined the village near Fort McClelland. Jess' life is filled with work, love, Indian raids, death, new life, accidents, nature's elements, and their camaraderie. Hutch and Jess were to be married when he returned from selling their furs in New Orleans. Illinois Indians captured Hutch an hour before the wedding. Jess with the help of Digger and Bill followed on the rivers to retrieve him.

The book can be purchased online in both paperback and Kindle at amazon.com for $15.95.

Thanks for being my friend. I spend the summer at Cliffty Creek on Lake Cumberland. We have had our place there for thirty years. Irene and Ann are my sisters and they live full time at the Lake. We grew up with my father's interest and activity in genealogy. I would like to meet you while we are there next summer. I was a teacher in Fayette Co, Schools and loved it. However, I think working in a crime lab would be very interesting. I have never gone ghost hunting but I have written ghost stories. It is a small world. In college I studied geology and it fasinated me. I have seen some of the LARGE geos found in Russel Co. Take Ccare and have a Great Halloween. Keep on Reading! Ruth T

We are going to travel for a month. My fiance just retired and he has the itch to travel! I'm itching too! I love to travel. We are planning (tentatively) a trip to Maine and some stops along the way. I'm meeting him in FL and we will leave from there. I remember the summer sports stuff so plainly- my son played soccer mostly but did play some baseball. He was in the band as well but we don't have marching band anymore just concert band. As for the group, what do you think we need to work on? Irene invited me to the Janet Holt Giles Festival in Knifely in October. We could see if the group would be interested (those of us in KY, anyway) in meeting there and maybe if they'd be interested in a group read of one of her works between now and then (Oct 4, I think). I still need to get that list of KY authors in a readable format. Any suggestions on how to tackle that baby? Or do you want to tackle it? haha! Really just anything you'd like to do as a group or discuss as a group is fine- I'm not a control freak. This is everyone's group. I want it to be fun for us all and I want to see our numbers (membership) grow. Those are my objectives. Thanks for your help and input. I really, really appreciate it.

I put you in as an administator. Any help you can give is more than welcome! Thanks! In two weeks I'm going on a long vacation. I've been trying to box up two houses (we sold both and have to be out of both by the middle of June for one and the end of the month for the other!). We will be taking the travel trailer up the east coast. We plan to be gone at least a month. What do you have planned for the summer?

Hi there and thanks for accepting my friend invite! I wanted to share my ghost story with you. We lived in a 100 year old victorian across the street from a cemetery. About 3 months into our stay, things started happening. Heavy items were rearranged on our mantel and sometimes pushed off in the middle of the night. It would wake us up. We even saw a door open right in front of us!! We have since moved on to another house, but these episodes really freaked me out. What kind of ghost hunting have you experienced?

It's not a group for writers. Sorry if that was misleading. I just wanted to start a group that would read and discuss books written by KY and Appalachian authors. If you're interested, we would love to have you!
