    That Summer Place

    Three stories/three authors:

    Three stories/three authors:
    1) Old Things by Jill Barnett; 4 stars - Catherine and Michael loved one another when she was 17 and he was 20, but on the first night they'd made love her father had caught them and threatened Michael with jail. Michael had entered the service and never had heard from Catherine so the romance had died, but not the memories. Now, thirty years later, his life has changed, she had been married to another man, divorced and then widowed. Two daughters were the result of that marriage and Catherine wanted to share her memories of the summer place where she and Michael had been. But the teenagers wanted no part of it, although they went along reluctantly. The changes in both Michael and Catherine's lives - and in the summer home - were remarkable!
    2) Private Paradise by Debbie Macomber - 5 stars - Female best friends, Mary Jane Reynolds and Beth Graham planned to spend a month's time together at Rainshadow Lodge, but Mary Jane's husband, Dave, had an accident that prevented that family from being there. The substitute consultant, John Livingstone and his young daughter Nikki went instead, making it nearly impossible for Beth and her son Paul to stay there. However, John made a deal with Beth that if she cooked and stayed with Nikki while he worked, they could remain. Both kids became interested in a relationship forming between their parents and worked toward that end.
    3) Island Time by Susan Wiggs - 5 stars - Mitch's company hoped to build a marina to bring work and interest to the area, so a marine biologist was hired for a month to do the studies, and would stay at Rainshadow Lodge. Rosie, a curvaceous and lovely woman from a large Mexican family, was the marine biologist. After this, though, Rosie was out of a job, had nowhere to live and her old VW had broken down. She and Mitch were opposites: he was serious, numbers-oriented and made sure to keep his life in check; Rosie was none of those things, in fact never balanced her checkbook. But she was dedicated to her job, which could cause problems for Mitch and his company.

    Three Wishes

This was so great! A romantic comedy fashioned after Aladdin's Lamp, but set in the present. Ladden was an antiques dealer and Jasmine, an interior designer raised in poverty, was now the (Trey) governor-elect's possible bride. He never told anyone, but Ladden wanted her to be his. When he...

When he purchased an antiques lot that included a small teapot and a carpet that Jasmine wanted for Trey's bedroom he never figured on the mayhem that would turn their lives around. The HEA was great, but getting to it was such fun.

    McKettrick's Choice

I loved this. The author is great, writes the way I like to read. The action was described but not in blood-and-gore terms, and the characters were so interesting. In a few places I was aggravated by either the male lead character or the female lead character, but not enough to change my...

In a few places I was aggravated by either the male lead character or the female lead character, but not enough to change my rating. I'd definitely read more of this author's books!

    The Art of Murder

    • Rated 5 stars

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book - has two strands a serial killer in UK in current times who has Jack the Ripper as a mentor, and letters from Jack the Ripper telling his story. Not well known this book but in my opinion worth searching out.

    The Twelve

Loving this! I am only about a third of the way through and trying to slow down and savor every word. I know everything will pale in comparison for awhile. Will be back when I finish, but I think I'm more drawn to this than The Passage, which I thought at times was too long...not this one.

    Six Years

A page-turner, but little substance. I finished this about five days ago and already can't remember the main character's name.

    Pleasure for Pleasure

Almost ditched this but kept on going. Eventually, the 'going nowhere" trend changed and the heroine and hero met, fell in love, etc. There was a second love story that was almost as interesting, but didn't start until nearly the middle of the book. Eventually, the 'going nowhere" trend changed and the heroine and hero met, fell in love, etc. There was a second love story that was almost as interesting, but didn't start until nearly the middle of the book. Strange, because I though this author was a really good one; guess I was wrong.
