The book is SOOO much better than the movie. If you didn't like the movie, read the book--they're that different from each other.

    A disappointment to me.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I'm not quite sure why. I liked how Hesse was very poetic, but not the the point of pure poetry (if that makes sense). I found the character of Peter Camenzind very intriguing. I especially loved the explanation of his being in awe of clouds towards the beginning.

I'm just not a very big fan of short story collections, I suppose. I did like some of these stories though, such as Eyes of Zapata and There Was a Man, There Was a Woman. I liked Cisneros' style, so maybe I just need to read a novel by her to form a solid opinion.

If I were to choose any Austen novel to make into a soap opera--and I would never demean any of them to such a state, but if I were--it would be this one. One of Austen's best novels, in my opinion. Fanny Price is so passive, unlike many of Austen's heroines, but she still manages to find her own happiness.

I remember I first read this book at an age when I thought that since my grandpa was in the medics during WWII (medics and soldiers made no difference to me at that time) he was solely responsible for this tragedy. Now I know better, but I still think Hiroshima was a tragedy and didn't have to happen. I love this story about a girl getting leukemia and folding her paper cranes to stay alive. I made a paper crane once, and it was very difficult, so I can see how a thousand would be very hard to make.

As with Magyk, I love it! The series is just so great. It's simple, so if I ever wanted to just pick it up one day and start randomly in the middle, I could probably remember all that was happening. I can't wait to read the third and for the fourth to come out in a few months.

I was amazed that by the end of the first chapter of this book, I could tell I was going to love it. And I did. It's a really great YA fantasy, and I'm happy that I've found another fantasy series that's ongoing since Harry Potter has ended. If I enjoy the rest of this series as much as this book, it will be equal with Harry Potter in my book.
