    A Victorian writer, friend of Charles Dickens. This was really interesting, a story to illustrate the ridiculous laws around inheritance and illegitimacy, which I didn't know about.

    Excellent story, well told with graphic accounts of Japanese life at the end of the 18th Century. The characters are well formed and you can imagine what life was like.
