"Sometimes I feel like a figment of my own imagination"
~Lily Tomlin~

Let's see ... where to start? I hate filling out these little "about me" sections: I live such a boring little life, I never know what to say :)

I'm a single mom with a daughter who's all grown up now, married, with two kids of her own and another... more »

Hi Kathleen, I just ordered Garden Spells earlier this week. I can't wait to read it. I just finished Blankets. That was an unusual book. Very different not quite what I expected but it was ok. I am about mid way through Angels and Demons and by the way I am about half way through the 1st Septimus Heap Magyk book. I really like it. Thanks to you. I am waiting on The Red Tent to come in. I ordered that on about 2 weeks ago. I think that might be the next one I start. I put Eclipse down for a bit. I kind of need a break from that book. I will have to check out your next read later. I will have my grand kids here next week so my guess is that I will be reading a lot of childrens books. Do you think I could list those on my 50 books Ive read for the year 2009 book group? Just kidding. I better run. Talk to you soon.

    Hi Kathleen,

I'm only halfway through The Time Traveler's Wife, and so far it's a good read. I know a lot of people who absolutely love it and I can see why, it's an unusual concept and it's very well written. I only came across one person who didn't like it at all and I can also see why, the constant change of time and place as well as age of the main characters can be annoying. Especially in the beginning there is a lot of going backwards and forwards and it's only now that I'm beginning to get into the flow of things. Like I say, most people love it, so I'm sure you want to check it out for yourself (and before the movie comes out). It's not what I normally read and therefore I'm not quite as enthusiastic as everyone else; it's probably going to be 3.5 to 4 stars for me, it's definitely a good book, just unusual in that the narrative jumps all over the place - for me, that took a bit of getting used to... Let me know what you think when you read it!

Hope any of the above makes sense! :)

Hi Kathleen! So far, I am really liking Patriotic Fire. I didn't know when I ordered the book that this author had written Forrest Gump. He writes this book with the same straightforward, entertaining way that Forrest Gump is written. There's a way that this author "talks" that makes the story easy to follow. It's almost like he's sitting in my living room telling me a story. I may be a bit biased about the story because I have a distant family history connection with lower Louisiana and Jean Lafitte. I'll read, and usually enjoy, anything about the pirates and the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast. So I hope I'm not leading you astray.

I'm glad you're finding things to read on my list! I admit I've stolen most of those books from other folk's shelves. Before I joined Shelfari I didn't read as much as I do now because I couldn't find what topics I wanted. I love that Shelfari has fixed that problem!

    Have a good week,
    patti :)

    Hi Kathleen,

Help yourself - that's one of the great things about shelfari isn't it, to check out other bookshelfs and see what people are reading. I've found so many books that otherwise I've never have heard of! My daughter (15) is the same, no, she's actually worse, her tbr list is endless (useful for birthdays/christmas though).

I really think I must check out Margaret George's books - Cleopatra would be good, because the last book I read about her (by Joann Fletcher) was a bit disappointing, so I would like a well-written biography about her to make up for that. I'm currently reading Queen of Scots, The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy and I have Antonia Fraser's biography as well, so that one probably will have to wait a bit. I only have one biography of Henry VIII (Alison Weir), so it might be good to get a comparison as well as someone else's view. Thanks for the recommendation!

    Cheers,
    Sabina

Hi Kathleen, I never thought of the Dollar Tree for books. I will have to check that out. Afternoons With Emily sounds pretty good. I just finished The Secret Garden. I still love reading that one. I am still on Eclipse and just started A Northern Light and Inkspell. I am trying to find The Red Tent but Borders seems to be out. So I will have to search on line. Maybe I can find a used copy. For some reason that book has really struck my interest.

    Happy Reading

Hi Kathleen, thank you so much for your input. I am about half way finished with Eclipse. It is much better than New Moon. I will let you know what I think once I finish the last book. Memoirs of a Geisha sounds good. I will have to put that on my list of the many books I want to read. I just finished The Shadow in the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafron. I loved it. It is kind of like an adult Inkheart. I am reading Brida also by Paulo Coelho. I read the Alchemist and really liked it so I thought I would try a few other books he has written. I am going to look for The Good Earth. I love to read stories of people in other countries. What are you reading these days?

Hi Kathleen, I noticed that you have read Memoirs of a Geisha and put a 5 star on it. Can you give me a little bit of an idea of what its about? It looks like it might be a good book. I am on the 3rd book of the Twilight series. I hope its better than New Moon. What did you think of New Moon? I just added Septimus Heat series on to my shelf. Those look like they might be fun. I have never read a Steinbeck book. What would you recommend as a 1st book to pick up of his?

H Kathleen, I just took a brief look at the books you have on your shelf. They look really interesting to me. I am getting ready to step out but I am really excited that you found me. I have some questions on some of the books you have on your shelf. It looks like we have quite a few book choices in common.

I read The President's Lady many years ago, and loved it. Did you ever see the old film with Charlton Heston and Susan Hayward (one of my favorite actresses of that era; she is so-o-o-o melodramatic!)?
Over the years, I've read a bunch of Irving Stone's "fictional bios." I particularly enjoyed Love is Eternal (Abe and Mary Lincoln), the one about John and Abigail Adams (can't remember the title, but something with Immortal; it's on my shelf somewhere), and another about John Fremont and his wife (title escapes me completely). Then, of course, there's The Agony and the Ecstasy...much better than the movie!
