"Let me tell you something, funny boy... You know that little stamp? The one that says New York Public Library? Well, that may not mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me. One whole helluva lot. Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen your type before -- flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention. Yeah, I know what you're... more »

Dear Kate: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel, HUNTING THE KING, was published last year after years of rejection slips. If you enjoy page turning thrillers, HUNTING will take you on quite a ride. ForeWord Magazine said, “Given such an auspicious start, the sequel can’t come soon enough.” The novel features Molly O’Dwyer. When Molly was five years old, she witnessed her mother die in a fire Molly believes she started. She never knew her father, so her own past is shrouded in mystery. After her mother’s death, she is raised on the campus of a Jesuit college in Boston. Now many years later, an archaeologist, she is recruited to participate in a dig in war torn Iraq. The passionate scientist in her is compelled to uncover whatever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. The observant Catholic in her is scared that what she finds may have profound consequences for her faith. There is a heart-pounding YouTube book trailer for HUNTING THE KING, which will give you a good sense of the pace and theme of the novel. I hope you’ll take a look and let me know what you think.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

Hi there, just read your review of the road and totally agree with you. I wish I had read it before all the hype and I don't think it worthy of "best book of the year" status, but I did love it. It was so simple and brutal at the same time. I found myself wondering if I'd keep going on and I just don't think I would have it in me, I felt hopeless just reading it, perhaps the position of parent would change that drastically, I just couldn't help but admire their strength and will to live.

Hi, I just read your review of Geraldine Brook's book, "March". You might also be into John Matteson's book "Eden's Outcasts". It's the nonfiction version of March - a look at the relationship between Louisa May Alcott and her father.

Thanks for the book reccomendation of Pope Joan. I was at the bookstore over the weekend to pick up the Page Turner's group pick (Walk in the Woods) and turned my head and Pope Joan was starring a me. I was compelled to pick up and purchase it! I have to read Owen Meany by the 3rd week of April so I will pick it up ASAP. It looks really good. What is the name of the Shakespearian play where this women gets shipwrecked and disguises herself and dresses as a boy? Did Queen Joan have any humor? Are you reading the walk in the woods with the other in the group?

It is interesting that you reccomended The Know It All. I checked it out of the library last week on CD - I drive alot and live in a rural area with bad radio - I was really enjoying it until the Cds turned out to be defective and the whole thing ground to a halt! And the library does not have a print copy!!!

    Hi.
Given that you enjoy historical fiction, I wonder if you've tried Lauren Willig's The Pink Carnation? It's historically accurate, well-written, and v. amusing: A substantive bodice-ripper, if that's not too oxymoronic. a description...

I love the books on your shelf! I was reading up on Nacy Turner. One of her books was praised for its greatness and likened it to "Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All," in which you commented here on Shelfari that you enjoyed the book (I think you gave it 4 stars). Have you read "These is my Words?" It is a historical fiction book I though you might like based on the books I saw on your shelf. Thought I would pass it on to you. Have a great day - Gigi

Miss Smith, I do hope you received my (rather long winded) diatribe on Miss Rand. If nothing else, it did make me think about her writing. Think it went private but I am no tech geek. Read Atlas Shrugged. But not until you get some break in your study schedule. And check for that note, it might have been a masterpiece. :)

Smith? Just cannot get away from all you smart gals from the Seven Sisters. I even have a Smith tee shirt I wear with pride! Thanks for the great ideas. I will take a look on amazon and see which one to go after first. I have never re-read a book but my friend and I have been discussing Atlas Shrugged of late and we are both going to read it again, highlighting the prose that knocks us over. He agrees of Rand's concept of integrity and thinks, as do I, that little of that honorable attribute is left. Do you re-read?

saw you found "Founding Brothers" to be a snore. i would tend to agree but would encourage you to read American Sphinx - about Jefferson. REALLY good and Joseph Ellis's best. if you want to amuse yourself about aurthor, google him. he is a professor at Mt. Holyoke College and told his female students there a lot of "tall tales" and war stories to impess. caught a lot of heat for it. -S
