  • Soul of a Highlander
    • Rated 5 stars

Third in Melissa Mayhue's Daughters of the Glen series, Soul of a Highlander follows the story of two wonderful characters first introduced in Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband [June 2007] and Highland Guardian [October 2007].

Faerie Magic rescued Mairi MacKiernan from certain death in 1272 and whisked her to safety in the twenty-first century, but at the cost of her dreams of ever finding happiness. When she discovers the last Daughter of the MacKiernan family was murdered in 1295, she knows it's up to her to demand Faerie Magic transport her back in time so she can save her line. Captured by the same evil men she'd barely escaped before can Mairi save anyone, including herself, from certain destruction?

Ramos Servans dedicated himself to service as a Guardian after he discovered the evil unleashed on the Mortal Plain by his father and their people. He's determined to atone and rid the world of Nuadian deceit, but he doesn't count on complicating his mission by rescuing a beautiful, independently minded Highland lassie that teases his senses and fires his passion.

After being introduced to Ramos in Mayhue's last novel, I could hardly wait to get my hands on Soul of a Highlander. He's every bit as delicious as I'd hoped yet conflicted as well by the guilt that resets him on his path of atonement. Mairi doesn't realize her path intersects with her sexy Guardian's and that they will face dangers together that will change both of their lives forever. I love the Fae world Mayhue has created, and this third novel in the series is a delightful addition to my Keeper Shelf!

  • Loose and Easy
    • Rated 5 stars

Just when I’m certain Tara Janzen has written her best book ever, she surprises me with another one that’s even better. Or it’s just different. Or it’s just that she’s that talented. With her release of LOOSE and EASY, the third in her spin-off special ops series my Keeper Shelf is becoming crowded.

LOOSE and EASY is a fast-paced, non-stop action joyride, with Esme and Johhny chased in his 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT every step of the way. Staying ahead of their pursuers isn’t their biggest challenge; it’s staying ahead of their memories and passion for each other. Their race to the finish line and into each other’s arms is one of the most satisfying reads I’ve had in a long time. Janzen never fails to amaze!

  • Dangerous Games
    • Rated 5 stars

DANGEROUS GAMES was my first Lora Leigh book and I have to say when I realized I was reading an erotic novel, I almost put it down. I'm so glad I didn't! Leigh grabbed me with a great suspense, a hot, tortured male capable of twisting the heroine [and me] in knots, and a believably strong heroine who could manage him. The BDSM scenes were done so well, I found them more scintillating than a turnoff [a fine line!]. I intend to take another walk with a Leigh novel soon!

  • The Smoke Thief

I fell in love with THE SMOKE THIEF after reading it in a writing contest. Shana Abe created a world I'd never dreamed of, filled with shapeshifting dragons and secrets untold, who also dwelled among us. I'd been introduced to shapeshifting stories before, but never to one about dragons...and dragons are a particular love of mine. Shana is one of the very few authors I'll buy in hardback.

  • The Dream Thief
    • Rated 5 stars

I read THE SMOKE THIEF in a writer's contest and fell in love with world Shana Abe had created. I enjoyed THE DREAM THIEF every bit as much. I simply love shapeshifter stories in general, and dragon shapeshifters in particular. Shana does a beautiful job of blending fantasy and the real world!

  • Master of Swords
    • Rated 5 stars

Immortal Arthur Pendragon and his vampire Knights of the Round Table stand between mankind and the dark forces that threaten them. In MASTER OF SWORDS, we return to the Mageverse and meet the knight Gawain and witch Lark McGuin.

After a vicious attack on Lark by a vampire of the Dark Grail, the new magae is struggling with her feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. The last thing she wants is to be mentored by the love 'em and leave 'em knight, Gawain, until the last Black Grail is destroyed. Gawain isn't any more interested in being partnered with a "green" witch even as his passion for her intensifies. He's been satisfied for centuries just playing the field, his only real bond being his friendship with his dragon friend, Kel. Kel, a shapeshifter dragon trapped in Gawain's sword centuries earlier by a spell wielded by an unknown dragon, can only return to his true form if he kills Gawain and that is something he will never do.

But forces are at work that none of them can escape. A descendent of another of Arthur's knights is determined to exact his revenge on the Magi and rule mankind with all the power he gets from death magic. He'll get what he wants even if it means forging an alliance with the human hating dragon that seeks to destroy Gawain and Kel forever.

Knight has created a masterfully complex world with Mageverse, and it is showcased beautifully in the symbiotic relationship between the vampires and the Majae, and Gawain's intricate friendship with Kel. The relationship that grows between Lark and Gawain practically scorches the pages as they match wits with a vicious villain who threatens their very existence. Knight's MASTER OF SWORDS is a wonderful mix of fantasy, sizzling erotic love scenes, snappy dialogue, humor and emotional depth that doesn't let up until you turn the last page.

    I can't wait to read Kel's story!

If you love vampires, I read "The Vampire Shrink" by Lynda Hilburn in December 2007. It's a different treatment of the vampire story than many I've read. It's got a fresh twist with a psychologist heroine, Kismet, who doesn't believe in vampires until a client who believes in them becomes a client, she meets the 800-year-old vampire who keeps the Denver contingent of vamps under wraps, and becomes embroiled in an ongoing murder investigation.

Although I'm not overly fond of first person because the main character tends to sound so self-involved, Hilburn does a good job with it. Between the yummy vampire and the FBI profiler who suddenly appears in the heroine's life, it's a sexy, fast-paced, and humorous read. It's Hilburn's first book and I'm looking forward to seeing what new adventure Kismet will face next.

  • Cutting Loose
    • Rated 4 stars

I love Tara Janzen's spin-off series to her Crazy... series! When she released ON THE LOOSE in October, I was thrilled. But I'm even more so with her newest release, CUTTING LOOSE. Now that I know what happened to the final missing Steele Street chop shop boy, the Crazy...series is complete on my Keeper Shelf!

Janzen hit her stride quickly with the second book in her series. CUTTING LOOSE is fun, action packed, steamy hot, and chockablock full of delicious heroes, intriguing heroines you can relate to, and a muscle car some might consider trading for their firstborn. Throw some of my favorite guys and gals from Steele Street into the mix, as well as introduce some new, intriguing faces, and this reader is ready to run to the nearest bookstore for Janzen's next exciting novel in the series. Can't wait!

  • On the Loose
    • Rated 4 stars

If you loved Tara Janzen's Crazy... series, you probably waited as eagerly as I did for the launch of her spin-off series with the release of ON THE LOOSE. It was worth the wait! Not only is the book as fun and sexy a read as I've come to expect from Janzen, she's reunited two characters I fell in love with in CRAZY SWEET who deserved their own story.

Janzen specializes in writing compelling, to-die-for heroes and sexy heroines worthy of them. Rydell and Honey are no exception. Their romance sizzles off this page-turning action story.

  • Shadow Hunter
    • Rated 4 stars

I've always loved Linda Conrad's suspense novels, which is probably why I took a chance and picked up the first of her Shadow series. For some odd reason, I don't usually enjoy Native American heroes [maybe because I'm not overly fond of westerns?], however, I'm glad I read SHADOW HUNTER.

She's created a wonderful suspense series pitting medicine men in the Navajo Brotherhood against the paranormal shapeshifters who endanger their people. I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat!
