Kamal, I checked out our books in common. 15 for 80... not bad. I usually enjoy checking out someone's favorites... but alas, your list is still in the making... so was mine until recently. Anyway, good reading, hope to keep in touch. D
wonderful choice Krishnamurti

read anything good lately?
Sorry to have been so long in replying...I've just been busy as hell lately, and I haven't even logged on for over a week. Thanks for the advice. I was talking to someone who had a thought that it might be a particular component of the motherboard. If so, it's an $8 part, and I just have to get someone to install it for me. I'll see what happens -- otherwise I may just wait to see what goes on sale after Thanksgiving.
Thanks for the suggestion. However, just getting TO craigslist is not easy, as I have to use the computer in the business center at my apartment complex, and they are only open until 6 pm. The other problem is financing this operation. At present, it looks like my only solution is to replace the motherboard, which I can have done for $435. There is a guy in my complex who has his own computer repair business, and he will let me pay half upfront and the rest when I can afford it -- but that's a lot to put into a computer that has been around for 3.5 years. A new one will probably cost over $600, and financing might be problematic right now, and then there is the issue of transferring the data from the old hard drive. If I can find an inexpensive dial-up modem for my old desktop (Windows ME, Pentium III processor), I at least have a partial solution, as I can still get online for a while, which in turn helps me to make some more money. I'm going today to see if I can find something.
I'm afraid I won't be able to get involved in NaNoWriMo this year...too much at work, paying writing jobs, and now my computer is shot -- I'm posting this from someone else's computer. Anyone want to donate a motherboard for a Gateway notebook? :-(

Hi Kamal,"Story" really is a great book - and I do recommend Rebel without a Crew. I don't know where you are with your film making, but I'm an absolute beginner and I found his solutions inspiring, funny, and pretty brilliant. I've used some of his very specific ideas, like using a wheelchair as a dolly, but also just his whole approach of diving in and finding creative ways of making your film. He clearly loves what he does, and it's great to read a book by someone with that kind of passion.
Thanks for perusing my shelf! As soon as I find the time I'll contribute to Twain's Speeches. It's part of a 25-volume set I own from 1925!
_No Plot, No Problem_ is written by Chris Baty, the founder of National Novel Writing Month. It's intended to help would-be novelists get started if they need a bit of a push, ideas for getting the creative juices flowing, or just a companion book for the project. There is also a No Plot, No Problem Kit, but be forewarned that the kit does NOT include the book. I haven't gotten too far with the book, so I haven't formulated an opinion yet, except that the first part detailing how the project got started is interesting.NaNoWriMo, is it is more familiarly known, starts November 1, so if you want to join in, don't waste time! www.nanowrimo.org
you noticed my shelf eh? a combination of fiction, physics, religion, and kaizen ones, i call this healthy intellectual diet :)my favorite gaiman book would be smoke and mirrors, snippets of brilliance from the man who thought me the beauty of darkness.
Thanks. I try to read a variety. I'd love suggestions.
yesssssssss.....Neruda is my favorite...good eye! so what is your novel about?
So you're working on a fifth draft? When do you publish? Very interesting--I like your writing style.
I'm curious to hear more about your novel...
I don't think there is any way to see people's favorites, unless they note in in an opinion. It would be a nice feature though!Honestly, I haven't really read any of the screenwriting books I own. They were gifts or textbooks. Truly, the best way to learn about scriptwriting is to just read scripts - not just the script books you find at Barnes and Noble, but actual scripts. You get to see the precise formatting and you get a good feel for the flow. The formatting is the hardest part. I personally feel that act structure should come naturally - either you feel it or you don't.
thanks! your shelf is nice as well. what are you reading right now??....
The Benjamin Franklin biography is indeed fantastic. I bought copies for my friends, although rather accidentally. I join book clubs where you pick out your 4-5 books for free, buy 2-4 more, quit, then start again! I joined a couple of clubs within a few days and managed to order the Franklin book 3 times. They do make great gifts! :0)
Kamal,Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to check it out. Just an FYI, you can actually make recommendations within the system by going to a book on your shelf and selecting "recommend book". Then you put in the username of the person you want to recommend to and it will show up on their homepage as recommended.Just an fyi... I am one of the co-founders of the site so we would love to hear your feedback. You can always give it by using the feedback link on the bottom of every page or just shooting me a note.Mark
