I am, and always have been, a reader and while I like just about any genre out there, there aren't very many horror books on my keeper shelves; a few, sure, but they're definitely the exception.
And yes, I do have keeper shelves for books... unfortunately for my poor, long-suffering husband Joe, collecting is another hobby. If I can... more »

    All About Evie

    by Beth Ciotta
    • Rated 4 stars

Beth Ciotta is a fantastic writer! Not only is this story filled with laughs, but it makes you think: Just what is age after all? I love what Ms. Ciotta does with Evie; how she's created a very real person. Evie has problems dealing with her age, but as the story progresses we see that she discovers that age is often just a number and it's what we do with our lives that matters. Definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series!!

This was the first Lee Child story that I read and I was so hooked on it I ended up glomming onto everything of Lee Child's that I could find. Not only does Child tell a fantastic story, but Jack Reacher is one of the good guys ~ one of the guys that does whatever has to be done to fix whatever's wrong. And if you're on the side opposite to Reacher, watch out, 'cause he's more than just strong, he's SMART and he never gives up.

This was the first of Alistair MacLean's books that I ever read: it was an assignment for my grade 9 Language Arts class. I had always been a voracious reader, but this book opened up an entirely new reading world for me and I was transported directly to the Polar Ice Cap along with the crew of the Dolphin, a world-class submarine sent to rescue a group of meterologists stranded on the ice cap. Thrilling, taut, on-the-edge-of-your-seat adventure, that'll keep you guessing up to the very end... or at least it did for me. MacLean takes you along for the entire ride and leaves you wanting much, much more of his story-telling. Outstanding!!

While this is actually the second story in the Narnia Chronicles, it's often touted as the main story. It is a wonderful tale of another world that is filled with magic. Creatures from fairy tales and very much a battle between good and evil. This is an outstanding allegory for older teens and adults, but even for children it's a story that will open their eyes and imaginations to the amazing world around us. Truly a story for everyone!

Lots of tension, both sexual and personal, fuels the dilemma that Franci and Kyle find themselves facing. This is very much a character driven story, with a nudge here and there from the story’s progression. I really enjoyed the relationships between each of the members of the Moretti clan ~ there are strong personalities in all three generations.
It’s a smooth paced story; the only problem that I had with it was that I would, at times, be reduced to tears ~ but that’s far more due to personal experiences than any problem with this story. Let’s just say that I found a lot of what occurs in the story to be quite real.
Wonderful story regarding family dynamics and how they often lead to the decisions that we make in our adult lives. Stef Ann Holm remains one of my favourite and auto-buy authors!

My first book from the LUNA line and not only will I be reading more books from it, Laura Anne Gilman and her Retrievers series are new favourites of mine.
Take a hefty dose of magic, lots of secrets and danger and add a simmering romance and you've got a winner!

  • No Ordinary Princess

Before I read this book, in search of more of Pamela Morsi's contemporary books, early American historicals were something I was not interested in reading. Ms. Morsi's No Ordinary Princess changed all that. Her story was timeless; her heroine knew what she wanted, and her hero had his eyes opened to more than just business. Wonderful story!

Wow, wow, wow! Susan Andersen’s been a big-time favourite of mine for awhile now and this book definitely illustrates the reasons why. Her stories have a touch of humour to them, but it’s nicely leveled off with an emotional component that hits right at the heart. Her characters, even the secondary ones, are impossible to ignore ~ they have a way of making a home in the heart and memories of the reader, or at least in this reader.
Her characters are real and evoke real feelings as the story progresses ~ and the suspense portion of the story is never too much, but certainly enough to keep the reader in their seat and glued to the pages. Fabulous!!

So, so nice to finally have an HEA for one of Suzanne Brockmann's favourite characters, Jules Cassidy. She did a fantastic job bringing together some very disparate elements and, as always, creating a whole that far surpasses the individual components. Jules and Robin's relationship has been anything but calm, but with this story, all the hurt and anguish that they've gone through finally comes to a glorious end ~ but definitely NOT without a problem or three along the way. And in true Troubleshooters fashion the good guys win, friends stand together and all works out in the end.
An OUTSTANDING read ~ VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

What a rollicking, joyous ride this story is! Sure there are a couple, or one, serious ~ hmm, make that semi-serious ~ moment(s), but overall it's a wonderful story with outstanding characters that bring the story, this somewhat complex story, to vibrant and fun life! I'm so very happy to have the next two books in the series.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND ... and be prepared to endure a case of the giggles!
