  • Cesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems
    • Rated 5 stars

Cesar's the best. He really explains how to have the right relationship with your dog to keep it happy, healthy, and well-behaved. I'm looking forward to his next book, which should be more how-to than this one. Oh, and that's my Johnnie ChowBoy in the photo on page 207.

Long, sometimes confusing story, but stick with it. A multi-generational story of ordinary people, lovingly told.

  • The Orchid Thief: A True Story of Beauty and Obsession (Ballantine Reader's Circle)
    • Rated 5 stars

Any good book about people with an obsession gets my vote. And when the author herself becomes more than a little obsessed, even better. This one is very well done, compelling and entertaining.

I know Wally Lamb and he's the nicest guy in America. Even if he weren't, this would be a wonderful book. I can't begin to describe it--it's complex, it's simple, you'll be enthralled. Go ahead, just read it!

Read this book if you don't know much about the Middle East. Thought-provoking, it explores both sides of the conflict. With a compelling plot along the way. Well done.

  • Swim to Me: A Novel

Wouldn't you want to be a mermaid if you could? Wonderful story about a girl trying to escape her family, only to bring them together (sort of) in the end.

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Spoiler alert! Don't read this review unless you've already read the book. Hey, it's amazing. So many things explained and wrapped up, a break-neck thriller pace. Loved it. However, on reflection, I disagree with her ending. I understand it, but disagree. To me, the book ends when Harry accepts his fate, decides to sacrifice himself to save the world, and walks into his doom surrounded by the love of his family and friends. This is a true hero.

But I understand JK is writing for children, and this may be too harsh. So, OK, I accept the confusing wand logic, and contrived happy ending. Still hate the epilogue, but I see that others will find it comforting and completing.

Whatever. It's a heck of an ending for an amazing story. JK's the best!

This is my dream. That one more species becomes extinct--us. Loved the book, he covered so much science yet easy to understand.

A stunning look at America's tallest trees. The writing is equally good. Get the original, huge edition if you can.

A bit of a departure from the typical police story. The main character is wonderful, I loved reading his story.
