I think the sex added to the character -- I had to read a book once about how teenagers have a lot more sex after their friends die, and the idea is that death makes people want to reproduce to make up for it. Doesn't Stingo say that, anyway, that the Stingo/Sophie sex was an attempt to beat back death? I think the sex was what she did to distract herself from her guilt. Also, sex is shunned by the Catholic Church, which is significant, right?

Maybe I'll look for it in the library the next time I'm there. I didn't read Atonement, but I did see the movie. Not a real warm and fuzzy, thats for sure.

I did try listening to it and returned it without finishing the first cd, I didn't care for the reader AT ALL. Maybe I'll pick up the book, when my pile goes down a little.

I am very pleased. I thought that I wouldn't pass because I got 2s on all of the practice tests with Mr. Holt. But I am very happy that I passed.

This is just for AP prep. The portfolio writing is the number one concern in the state, and I am hoping that the independent study will allow the students who take the class seriously to have more opportunities to discover various novels. They also have to read two AR books each nine weeks and write an analytical essay on one of them. I mentioned Grendel twice, but I meant to type Beloved. I think Grendel, The Life of Pi, The Kite Runner, and finish the year with Beloved.

I need a few suggestions. I am currently picking out the four books to highlight for my independent book study. I am thinking of The Kite Runner again. Both girls who read it passed the exam, and I think covering it the week before helped. This year I may do it as the third book. Because we have writing portfolioes, I don't have as much time to work with literature, so the indedpendent study may also be my only chance to focus on Grendel, The Life of Pi, and Grendel.

    Any other ideas?

No, I havn't. I got started on them because I've been trapped in my house all summer with no books besides my stepmom's. I usually dislike the whole vampire thing but these are all right.

funny you bring up existentialism bc I was just talking to someone about it today and they didn't know what it was... poor them. I have never heard of _The Trial_ before, but i'm sure it is good if it is by Kafka.

I definatly agree about them getting worse, but unfortunatly once I start a series it is hard for me to stop. So, of course I'm going to read the next one, no matter how terrible it is... I'll probabaly even finish it within 24 hours. ;) I'm ridiculous. The fifth book is going to be the first rewritten from Edward's perspective. I'm not sure how great that will be either...

Oh, I will. July 16th, right? You should read _The Wedding_, It'a great if you like romance novels in the least! And _Special Delivery_ is another good romance novel, I'm a sucker for a good romance story.

Um, I've read _The Wedding_ by Nicholas Sparks, and now I'm reading _Special Delivery_ by Danielle Steel. I haven't had much time to read this summer, I've been working 6-7 days a week. Kinda sucks. How about you?
