Hi. I love books that speak to me. They don't necessarily have to mirror what I am or what I want, but I love books that deal with unspoken groanings whether of myself, or of others, and books that rebuke and tell what the reader doesn't already know. I want books that are honest, because you don't usually find that trait in... more »

This books shows how the ravages of time fail to change the fact that people feel the same emotions and are faced with similar relational and interpersonal problems. In the eyes of Irun who is born of noble birth in ancient Egypt, life was lonely. Separated by a hundred of years, Erin likewise suffers from social ineptitude and loneliness as a high school girl. Both girls love cats, both girls find self-acceptance in the end, and more importantly, an inner strength inherent in every girl becomes manifest, making this book a good read for girls who must necessarily pass adolescence to reach womanhood.

There's a mystical aspect in the story, and that is, you can't help but think that they're one and the same, somehow. :)

I love this book. I read it when I was in High School, when I myself was in some particular instances, had to struggle for with loneliness and shyness :)

This is an extraordinary story about a woman who triumphs through love and acceptance. A childhood of abuse, neglect and trauma did not prevent Cellie from finding happiness in the hands of the persons who recognized her worth.

The Bible says: "Search the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.- John 5:39" I love reading the Bible because through it I come to know God himself, as it testifies of God. I come to get into a deeper relationship with the Creator of all things, the God of the heaven and earth, and as I search deeper, I partake of the bounty that is His to offer to those who believe every word that is written in this Book of Life. It is to me a mirror which tells me my spiritual condition: it rebukes, it corrects, it instructs, until he finds me perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Aside from that, it assures my eternal destiny, and if I keep on holding on to its ideals and values, and share it to others, I would someday meet my Creator and hear his affirmation.

  • The Prayer of Jabez Devotional

The Prayer of Jabez presents how a small prayer can change history. Jabez is a little known man, but he was "more honorable than his brothers" because of his prayer and God's response to it. Bruce Wilkinson encourages believers to pray big prayers, to ask for more from God, and to pray that God extend their territory and influence for Him. Bruce doesn't encourage people to leave their secular jobs, but he does enlighten people to do something for God wherever they are and whatever they do. Since the Commission is formidable, it is often met by a great opposition from the enemy, and so the necessity of God's constant protection from the evil one. Total dependence on the Lord as the believer goes about doing what God wants is definitely required. "And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory that your hand would be with me and that you would keep me from evil that I may not cause pain. So God granted him what he requested." 1 Chronicles 4:10

It's like God Knows the Truth but Waits, but it's more multi-faceted. There's just so much of the human condition to explore here. We have here a hero who's very much unlike the postmodern and the practical. He's proactive without being vindictive, and in all respects moved by noble desires without ceasing to be human. He remained a deeply spiritual man: one uncorrupted by the world that has belittled his unwavering spirit.

E.B. White gave a legacy of a delightful story with a delightful hero who's impossible to forget. I love the last paragraph, which I believe is the most potent part of the story. I also love E.B. White's impeccable writing style which made the story a fun read for children (without being shallow), and a pleasant one for adults (who are not scared to be caught dead reading it). :D

I find the story a gripping tale, both in its literal signification and the clandestine content that it leaves open for its readers to explore. Whatever interpretation it may excite upon the reader, it shall remain a potent work of sublime art. I just LOVE it. :D

  • The Client
    • Rated 5 stars

The first story I read from John Grisham, and my favorite so far. It's a story about a boy who was witness to the suicide of a crazed lawyer who has got issues with an influential client, and the lady lawyer (Reggie Love) who helps the boy escape threats against his life and his family whilst protecting his rights. Struggling to free herself from alcoholism and guilt for failing in her role as a mother, she manages to find release and discover her worth by her staunch representation of The Client --- and she finds healing in the process.

    ---

After years of struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction, Brad Renfro, the child star in "The Client" was found dead by cops in his apartment. :(
