A few of my top favorites for these virtues are Michael Connolly, James Lee Burke, Carl Hiassen, James Patterson, Robert Crais, John Grisham, Steig Larsson, Harlan Coben, Josh Bazell and Joseph Wambaugh. This isn't a complete list.
