JudithAnn

Hi, I'm Judith and I read a lot!

I have no particular favorite genre, but at the moment my favorite authors are Patrick Gale, Joanne Harris and Haruki Murakami. I am Dutch but spent a long time in England and now (slightly) favor reading English books.

On my shelf: I try to give a comment on all the new books I read. I have...more »

Hi JudithAnn. Thought I'd continue the cruise discussion over here. You should try a cruise at some point. I was hoping to be able to look up for you where all the cruises go that depart from Amsterdam, but I don't seem to be able to do that - at least on the sites I'm looking at. Probably anywhere around Northern Europe. I'm sure some of the destinations (besides the places I saw) include Norway, Russia, Denmark...

Oh - I knew there was a site I could use to look that up, but this is only from one particular cruise line's website - Celebrity - which was the cruise line I was on. Ooooh - they have one that leaves Aug. 21 for Ireland and Norway. That looks fun! (I'd like to see Norway at some point, too!) The Scandanavia one doesn't go till next spring, but that includes Germany, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, and Denmark. There's another that goes to the Arctic Circle - stops along the way all seem to be in Norway. And I see a couple of others that start in Amsterdam and end in Spain, so there are different places those will stop, too.

I'll stop about the cruises now (unless you want to know more!). I could go on and on. I am hoping to do another next year, but it will probably be a Canada (Eastern Canada)/New England cruise, simply because I'm hoping the flights will be cheaper. I'm from Western Canada. Up until my cruise in June, I hadn't been outside of Canada/USA.

Hi-thanks for the heads up about the sequel toLove Walked In. I will definitely have to keep an eye out for it. I could really see this being made into a movie. I think it would be great. How's it going with TITTM?

Thanks Judithann for your response. It is not purely about religion but it is about the way we live and lifting one another up from wherever we are. This is not to make you join but just to let you know it is not about religioun. You could check out the topics and only react/respond to the one that touches you.

Anyway, I love your candid nature and I think we have that in common. cheers

Probably a good idea to try finding it in the library! My copy was very cheap, so it wasn't too painful when it didn't turn out to be as good as I'd hoped.

I quite liked the book, though not as much as some of his others.

It's very much in the vein of his other works, although probably the weakest one I have read.

His trademark writing style and sense of humour are all here, but with a lot of the book being centred on the school days of the various protagonists, the book just didn't work overall for me.

The school days stuff is alarmingly accurate and very evocative if you went to school (in this country) at a similar time, but there was just too much of it for me, and it pushed out the more intriguing murder mystery of the "present day" part of the plot.

I know, I know it's insanely large and I may never be able to read them all in my lifetime. My sister-in-law used to work for a major book publishing house and I used to get lots of books for free or up to 50 cents at their yearly sales, so I have a ton of books. I actually have only bought maybe 5 books in the past year, I only trade at paperbacks plus, but for every book I mail out I get one back so my pile never goes away :)
