DOC-209

A little about myself:

I am a big fan of alternate history or 'counter factual' history, especially works by Harry Turtledove (my favorite Turtledove series thus far is the 'Southern Victory' series (11 books total). I am also something of a history buff too, particulary military history. I also enjoy reading other genres, including... more »

Same here doc, david lunch's dune set me off reading not just the first book but all of them except the last, chapterhouse. Was taking another look at the info from amazon on this book and it says the publisher is cliff's notes, kinda weird. I just remember some pictures of the worms used as far as the special affects shots set ups but not much else, wasn't a very big book, wider than tall.

As far as finding it, who knows when that will be, haven't seen it for sale in all the years i've had it on my amazon wish list.

Hey Doc, Have you seen the "Art of Dune"? We are only two of three on shelfari that has it on their shelf. Been trying to get a copy for a while but I've kind of forgot what it really looked like. I had seen it when i was a kid and thought it was cool but that was a long time ago. Is it worth the search?

LOL Don't really mind if it's a 'short' post. Just trying to get the group more active. With over 1000 members, we definatley should be more active. Trying new things, including the secret reader (Secret Santa) and group reads.

    Hi Doc,

I've been a bit busy too, started a new job in a new city, big move and am still unpacking. Unfortunately not much time for reading or shlefari lately. So let's see, what would be a good starship to put up that hasn't gone up yet?

Thanks Doc, I was told it was the real chair they used on the show (although i've heard before that it was lost). It was kind of a religious experience to be on that recreated bridge though, .....it was hard to leave it. Saw a USS excelsior filming model used for TNG. It was in pretty bad shape bending in the middle due to the wieght on each side. Looked really cool though.

Hi Doc, absolutely all art is cool, love the pinup art as well although I don't own any at the moment. Throw them on there, I'm sure I'll like them, from what I've seen we have similar tastes.

    Good Morning!

Thanks for accepting my friendship request. We don't seem to have reading tastes in common, but I've never found that to be a problem with anyone.

My husband's son and his wife read nothing but science fiction. I'll have to ask if they're into alternate history also.

Hey Doc, It's been a crazy, busy Summer and I haven't had much time for Shelfari although as always I'm reading alot. Not this weekend though, I travelled to Yakima, Washington for a tennis tournament and one the championship for my level...whoo hoo, my first big win in competitive tennis! Watch out Sherapova...LOL, o.k. maybe not but it was fun to win at the club tennis level.

The anniversary issue of Robo sounds great. I'm looking forward to my Son being old enough to watch those kinds of shows with me. I love fast paced action flicks and anything that relates to Dystopian society.

    Nice to hear from you.

I watched the entire show in the Indianapolis. There are only about 14 of those guys left alive. I cannot imagine the survivor's guilt that they have. It was intense. But it was worth it. My husband is going to buy a copy for his dad. I work nights, but am off by 10 so I get to see a bit. I have been watching during the day as well.Shark week is the most wonderful time of the year ;) I am going to keep watching!

    Hi Jason,
Sorry to say I gave up on Last Ship it was just too dull. I kept hoping for more. I'm reading a time travel series right now called Outlander. I don't think I'd recommend it to a guy, it's definitely chick lit. After that it's on to some YA Dystopian for one of the Shelfari groups I belong to. I'm keeping my eye out for a good post apocalyptic story, preferably with a pandemic type theme, let me know if you come across one. I tried 4 different pa books recently and all fell flat, Last Ship, The Rift, The Pesthoue and Earth Abides....Yawn, I can't remember another time that I've set aside so many books! Well maybe Wimbledon was just too exciting and it caused my interest to stray....LOL. Nice to hear from you.

What would you say the 2 or 3 most intense, powerful soundtracks ever are? Check out my profile, I run a popular website and may go down the avenue of an article on this ...
