“This is a great biography of Calvin. However, in my opinion, the beginning is a tough read. He seems to spend a long time on many thinkers and places that seemed above an average readers knowledge, thus seeming almost irrelevant unless one was aware of the greater context and individuals of Calvin's time and place. It doesn't start getting interesting until Part II (p. 107), and my interest continued to pick up as the pages turned. I agree, with other reviewers, that his section on Calvin's beliefs (i.e. his theology) is rather weak.”
