A swedish book idiot, physical chemist and engineer in Switzerland, looking for more time to read, more books to read, more books to discover. I like the absurd, the hyperrealistic and the poetic. I don't like generic plots, one-dimensional characters or forced endings. But then again, who does ?

Unfortunately, they are making Youth in Revolt a movie. I LOVED the book so I don't think I will see the movie - there will definitely be parts of the book that won't make it to film.

I have seen the Wrestler and did enjoy it. Will have to check out Hurt Locker. Currently, I am watching Ugly Betty - never watched it when it first came out but I have to say I am really enjoying it. I used to work in the fashion industry and some of the characters on the show are so spot on for the fashion industry types.

I am ready for the holidays. Did all my shopping on amazon. Went a bit crazy with the toys for my nephew. He is 6 and you figure he may find out the truth about Santa soon - you figure there is always that one classmate who is clued in about these matters. At the moment, Santa is still visiting this year! I will be staying home for Christmas but most likely will be flying to see my new love interest for my birthday and the New Year or he will be flying here.

I am jealous of your Paris trip. I have that on my list of places to see (eventually).

Let me know if you ever read Youth in Revolt. It is not classic literature but you will definitely get a laugh. I laughed out loud on the subway reading it. It is that funny!

Be well and enjoy the festive season!

For post apocalypic fiction, definitely read Oryx and Crake, as well as The Year of the Flood, also by Margaret Atwood. The two go hand-in-hand. The way she presents and unfolds these stories is just incredible. You might also enjoy The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier. It's one of my all-time favorites, and also post-apocalyptic.
I haven't read The Book of Dave yet, but The Road... That book has stuck with me. It's an incredible work. If not for that tiny glimmer of hope, I wouldn't understand how anyone could stomach it. :)

Things are going alright. Went on holiday to Northern Ireland and England about a month ago. Went to my friends wedding in NI. They had a fantastic reception at a castle. It was fairy tale like. However, the fairy tale ended when I got home and back to reality. Still at the same job but just saving money now to move on as the economy is slowly picking up. Thinking about giving the UK another chance but this time moving to England. Not sure yet but got the itch to move. Pondering Chicago too - talk about being confused!

As for books... I LOVE Youth in Revolt by C.D. Payne. If you want a good laugh, check that out. I also liked Been Down So Long Looks Like Up to Me by Richard Farina, anything Jerzy Kosinski and Zeno's Conscience by Italo Svevo. I also like Ivan Klima but you know how I like my Eastern European authors.

Seen any good movies lately? I watched Pan's Labyrinth again, the Visitor and now in the middle of March of the Penguins. Checked out Let the Right One In - enjoyed that one too. Hope all is well. Are you ready for the holidays?!

I can't wait for my books to arrive from Amazon. I ordered all of Ellis' books. I only own American Psycho now.

I don't even know where to begin with Naked Lunch.. I can't understand anything! Nothing makes sense =/ I must finish it no matter what. I'm at page 20 (if I'm not mistaken) I used to have a bookmark inside the book but I removed it because of how much I hate it so I lost which page I'm at.. which reminds me I'm gonna continue reading it after I'm done typing this comment. MUST FINISH IT! I have 2 books in my reading-list queue.

    Dewey + The White Tiger.

I think I saw The White Tiger in your list, right?

Do you know any other good books out there for me that are about the yuppie and celebrity-based culture for me, other than Ellis? I loved his style. I like those types of books because in Kuwait they're all yuppie now.

    Hi Jonas,

Thanks for accepting my friend request :D

I see that you read Brest Easton Ellis books.. he's my favorite author! :D I'm curious to know what do you think of American Psycho? (MY FAVORITE BOOK!)
Did you like the book or do you feel that all his books are talking about the same subject? (Yuppie culture and all..)?

Also House of Leaves is in your wish list. I own this book but I haven't read it yet I'm still busy eversince months trying to finish Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs, I really can't tell you how much I hate this book. Have you heard of it? It's ridiculous. I feel like I can't read any more books until I'm done with Naked Lunch because I hate to let a book unread in my shelf.

    =/

    Hi,
I haven't read the White Tiger, but heard quite a lot about it. The author also has this new book called something Assassinations, a collection of short stories. Have you read any other Indian literature? I haven't but I'd like to.

I loved J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace mainly because of his writing style and the way he forms the narrative. His writing is very elegant, I've marked some passages which I liked. Ok, I'll give you the link of my review once I post it.

Glad to hear that you have a wonderful new place. Your home is your castle! Did the same author write the book from Gregorius' viewpoint? Or was it somebody else? That is a major pet peeve of mine is when a different author writes a sequel to a book (Wide Sargasso Sea - blah!)

I did read about the Catcher in the Rye sequel that is out there but not available here called 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye by John David California. I see that JD Salinger is suing him. Have you read it? If so, let me know what you think.

Not too much else is going on here. Still riding out the recession and staying put in my current job/situation. I am off to San Francisco for a week and a half soon so it will be a nice getaway.

    Seen any good movies?

How did your move go? Are you all settled? Hope all is well. Have a wonderful weekend!

    Jonas,
I hear you. It's nice to be able to stay home with them, but it puts us on a really tight budget. I figure we can go without a few things for a while. It will be easier when all three are in school and I can go back to work.
I agree about the filtering in YA books. It gets old. Some are better than others though. I am surprised at how some books are marketed as YA when they have some really unsuitable information in them. I try to read all my kids' books and watch their movies before they do. We read novels to them at bedtime. I have to read all those first too. But then V C Andrews was marketed as YA and I cant read her at all. The content makes me nauseous. Anyway, don't work too hard and enjoy the little one.
    Blessings,
    Sarah

    Jonas,
I never read two books of the same genre in a row unless I'm working on a series. Every once in a while I feel like a YA. I'm an adult and I get to do whatever I want! And I want to read childrens' literature today! Ha ha. Sorry to hear about your daughter. I know how the daycare thing goes. I'm staying home with the kids at the moment. My boys start kindergarten this fall. I'll probably go back part time then. I don't want to work full time till my youngest gets into school, which is two years away. So I am cooking, cleaning, gardening, and all that fun stuff. Plus we spend a lot of time outdoors where its summer. I have a huge garden and tons of flowers. Trying to enjoy the kids while I can, you know? Plus I have two 4-year olds reading at a first grade level! Now all I need to do is get their penmanship under control! Boys have terrible handwriting! Blessings to you and yours.
