This is a great read! I love Donn Taylor's dry, witty voice, and he creates quirky characters that become very real as you get to know them. Highly recommended, and I'm looking forward to his next book!

After reading this book, I feel as if I've had a taste of new wine after a long, long time of drinking musty dregs. I have to admit I've been growing pretty cynical about the state of the established church today and the typical Christian's understanding of God, but this thoughtful, moving story has refreshed my soul and allowed me to encounter God in a new way, and I am grateful.

  • Lad: A dog

Forget Lassie! This is the quintessential dog story, and if you haven't read it, you're the poorer for it. Every child should read it. Every adult should read it. Terhune knows dogs, and he creates a true, real dog hero with power and compassion. This is an animal you want to be like!

Get this story. Read it for yourself and read it to your kids. If you aren't crying by the end, you don't have a heart. If you're a cat person, you'll be converted.

I love all of Farley's books! I loved the movie too. This story has it all--engaging characters, a dynamite storyline, and a equine hero bigger than life. When the movie came out, I took my daughters, who were then little girls, to see it. Afterward, my middle daughter Anna stood outside the theater in tears, saying, "I want a black stallion too!"

  • Code of the West

    by Zane Grey
    • Rated 5 stars

Along with Man of the Forest, this book is one of my all time favorite westerns. Grey has the ability to create a milieu and characters that grip your heart and stay with you for a long time after you finish reading. His descriptive powers and engaging storylines set the standard for this genre.

I just couldn't put his book down! Talk about involving! The premise is that two very different women, one who can't conceive and one who plans on having an abortion because a pregnancy now would be inconvenient, strike up an unlikely friendship. The author takes a beautifully compassionate approach to a very emotional subject. This story is a must read for anyone who has undergone an abortion, is unable to conceive, or loves someone who has experienced either side.

  • The Fifth Man: Will They Find Life on the Red Planet - Before It Finds Them? (Sequel to Oxygen)
    • Rated 5 stars

I was dubious, but this sequel lived up to the first book in the series in every way--which is rare for sequels. Talk about hold-your-breath action! Excellent series, and major kudos to the authors! You guys need to write more like these!!

Good grief, why did I wait so long to read this and the sequel, The Fifth Man???? I could not put this book down! It's crammed with technical stuff I have no knowledge of, but it didn't matter. Before I knew it, I was fascinated by it. The story is the kind of rip-roaring, flat out wild adventure tale I love and can't find enough of. In depth characterization, a plot that keeps you fipping those pages like a windmill, and profound observations about life and faith and relationships that are stunning. Love it, love it, love it!!! Highly recommended!

I've had this one sitting on my shelf for some time. Tonight I cracked it open, and I'm hooked. Could NOT put it down. If it's this good all the way to the end, it deserves 5 stars!
