I am an avid reader. I always have a couple of books going at any one time. I read just about everything, but in the past couple of years I have read more and more nonfiction.

I love books. I love to read them, I love to possess them, I even love the smell of those little old used bookstores. The knowledge and information within the... more »

I'm cracking up. Our Ms. Richardson is giving up in the face of so many real facts being thrown at her!

Hi Cherper...how are you defining spam? We occasionally get crazy posts from various members. I'm reluctant to delete them because I feel everyone should have a chance to say what they want even if I think it's annoying but if you think I should get rid of this, I will. Or I'll just pin everything else to the top until we have enough posts to relegate it to the second page. :-)

Just to update you, my buddy on Staten Island and I have been playing the new Longest Day game, Battle for Normandy by GMT. Never thought I would find one on this subject as playable as the orig AH Longest Day but his seems to fit the bill. Bit larger map and quite graphic with good counter identification and color coded to divisions. The play procedure is smooth and of course with the numerous counters present it takes two of us quite a while to make the night, am and pm moves. We are enjoying it and again I am getting my butt kicked as the Germans. Never stay near the beaches as the Allied naval fire in support of ground attacks is murder. Of course I knew that but found my units too few to block British or American moves inland. Like I said, quite an interesting new monster game. Be well, Bob L

Hi I was wonder what you thought of The Glass Rainbow by James Lee Burke? I haven't read any books by him, but someone at Borders said his books are usually pretty good. Thanks,

Hi Cherper - just wanted to let you know we're seeking nominations for the quarterly read in the History Non-Fiction group. Please feel free to nominate something...the quarter doesn't begin until July so there's a bit of time to decide. Just wanted to let you know since you were one of the folks who introduced themselves in the group and expressed interest in more activity in the group.

Trouble with monster games is that you can never find enough players to sustain the action. Sometimes the games take almost a year to finish playing them weekly or every other week. Take Decision Games remake of War iin the Pacific. It seems to be unplayable at this point, much as the orig SPI game was way too much. Anyway, good luck with the wife roll or better yet give her a good roll and she might. accept. Stay in touch and check out consimworld. Also there is warhorse simulations which allows players to play remotely via the computer. Even makes die rolls and draws cards. I've played a few games several years back before my move to Richmond for conductor work with CSX. Now I am sitting as retired back in Freehold, NJ. Later, Bob L

I am currently reading Trudeau's "Gettysburg" and see that you have read it as well. I am getting an indepth study of this battle as I have enjoyed playing wargames (simulations on boards, not firing paint at each other) since I am ten years old. My small group of players has started what is termed a monster game (many pieces to regimental level and three large paper maps which we put plexiglass on top of) of the battle at Gettysburg. Game is by GMT games in Calif and is called "Three Days of Gettysburg". These games are complex but playable and if interested check website for consimworld, a large site for wargamers of all stripes, countries, eras, etc. They even have a social site attached and it is fun to check out. I blog my game on that site. Cheers.
