I like to read a lot of sci fi, preferebly harder sci fi and near future stuff and not fantasy or military sci fi. I also like to read laymen's science books. I read the some historical and literary fiction and spy stuff for a bit of variety.

Entertaining thriller about a guy who is trying to create a space tourism market and get embroiled in all kinds of problems when a sports star is killed in an accident. The politics and technology of is very detailed and the plot fairly intricate without becoming over-complicated. The writing is very direct and straight-forward. Good some summer reading kind of book.

Very well written and interesting book about a Russian anarchist who is transported into modern Virginia. The science fiction angle is just a prop to juxtapose the main character into our world and chance to give us this outsider view. The quality writing and interesting main character are what makes it work. A weak ending mars it and the main character adapts to easily to our world but still a good read.

One of my favorite post-cyberpunk near future sci fi books. Set in a future where civilization has collapsed after nano and bio technology gets out of control and is filled with original and amazing ideas. The story does kind of get out of control in some places but finds its way back and the overall is experience is worth it.

A great near-future scifi book in the vein of The Diamond Age or Accelerando. If you like books that are driven by technology ideas definitely check this out. Don't expect the Big Space Opera of Fire Upon the Deep or Darkness in the Sky but there are lots of realistic extrapolations of the internet turning into a constant, multi-layered shared reality.
