I just checked out Boracay Island on the internet, it is beautiful! If I were you I would be planning my trip there soon.I am a big beach fan. We live semi close to the beach (about a 30-45 minute drive), and also about the same drive to the mountains (I am going to the mountains this weekend).

California is sunny most of the time. We have basically 2 seasons where I live, warm (winters are in the 60's during the day) and hot (summer can be over 100 but usually not for too many days in a row). We don't get much rain, and it has only snowed here a couple of times in the past 10 years or so. Although the local mountains get snow so we can drive up to play in it for the day.

I was looking at your Lynn Kurland group today. I need to read one of her books so that I can join. I only belong to a few groups so far and I only participate in two so far (Babecakes and All things Plum). I found Shelfari bacause the Administrators at Babecakes also run a Yahoo reading group (also called Babecakes - which was originally a Plum group but has branched out to an all book reading group), and they talked about it on the Yahoo group.

    How did you find Shelfari?

I live in Southern California, not too far from Los Angeles.

Wow, Manila...that is a long way from here! My parents were actually married in Manila (about 55 years ago though!). Have you always lived in the Philippines?

I have always lives in the U.S., but in a few different states over the years. I am married, and have a 16 year old daughter who also loves to read.

hi, there's great book swapping happening at www.bookmooch.com. it has a forum here at shelfari, at http://www.shelfari.com/groups/23735/about.

bookmooch is a site that lets you give away the books you don't want anymore and get the books you Really Want to&from bookmooch members all over the world!

joining is free. you don't spend to get the books but you will have to pay postage to send overseas. with sea mail, you won't be damaged so much though (80/thin book, 150 up for heavier books).

    hope you join!

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will look for "A Dance Through Time" and then let you know how I like it.

Have you ever tried Charlaine Harris, the Sookie Stackhouse seies? It is paranormal (vampires, werewolf...but not real heavy), with some humor, romance and mystery. She is one of my favorites for a fun read (like Janet Evanovich).

Switching subjects to Jennifer Cruise; you had asked me in another post if I liked the Mayor of Temptation (Phin i think?) or Davey. I think I have to go with Phin...he was hot! I saw that you likes Fast Women of hers the best. I don't think I have read that one yet. I guess I need another trip to the library!

I was checking out Linda Kurland on your shelf and reading a couple of the discussions and reviews. Would you say she is historical romance? It looks like there might be time travel also.

Maybe I should try one of her books, I am always looking for new authors to try and I do like historical romance and some paranormal (although to too much sci fi). Which one would you recommend I start with? Are her books series or stand alones?

I think my favorite Jennifer Cruise book was Don't Look Down (one of the books she co-authored with Bob Mayer. I also liked Welcome to Temptation and Faking It.

I like her books, they are fun, fast reads.

Who would you say is your favorite author?

Having a Grandma Mazur would certainly add some spice to life wouldn't it?!

Having a Joe or Ranger would be even better! I have to say that I like both of them, but I perfer Ranger a little more. My thought is that it's fiction, live a little and take a walk on the wild side. Joe is the safe choice; but in a book, safe can be a bit dull.

Who do you prefer, Joe or Ranger?

My all time favorite is Twelve Sharp. I loved the suspense near the end of the book when you didn't know who was going to walk thru Stephnie's door. What a page turner!
And then when Ranger was shot...aaahhhhh. I think it was some of the best writing Janet Evanovich has done.
As for Grandma Mazur...I want to be like her when I get older!

    Oh, your welcome!

Which Stephanie Plum novel has been your favorite so far?

Personally Fearless Fourteen was a waste of time for me. Others may love it, so I wouldn't want to tell you not to read it. I have loved the Stephanie Plum Series, and have laughed out loud through all of the other books. This book was just a miss for me. There have been quite a few people that have read the Advanced Reader Copy like I did, and they have left reviews on Barnes and Noble, so you may want to check that out. Really my best advice is to borrow the book from someone or from a library.

I found that for me, I like mysteries, and I like a really good bad guy. At the end of 14 you won't even know the bad guys name. Stephanie is not stalked to chased in this book, and there is no suspense at all.

And if you like the triangle between Stephanie, Morelli and Ranger, you won't find it in this book either. I missed the sexual tension between them. In a word, it was boring to me.

So if you have read the other books, it would be difficult to not read one book in the series. I just wouldn't spend my money on it.

I hope this helps. If you want to know anything particular about the book, feel free to ask me.

Thanks for the recommendation. We have some strong reviews for Kurland at our website, but time travel as a general rule doesn't interest me. But I'd love to know which of her books you think are best.
